West Junior A Football ChampionshipFr. Caseys 3-08 Feenagh/Kilmeedy 1-06

Fr. Caseys Junior Footballers travelled to Newcastle West last Friday night to take on Feenagh/Kilmeedy in round 3 of the West Championship. With no victory from their first two starts it was vital Fr. Caseys got points on the board. Feenagh/Kilmeedy opened the scoring with a point from play but that was soon cancelled out when Thomas Smith converted a free kick. A second Feenagh/Kilmeedy point had them briefly in front once more but the accuracy of Thomas Smith from free taking duties levelled proceedings again. Midway through the half Fr. Caseys made the breakthrough their early dominance had deserved when Billy Quirke was put through on goal and he blasted to the back of the net. Feenagh/Kilmeedy made changes and their new arrival at centre forward gave them a lot more threat in attack. Three points without reply levelled the scores but just when it looked like Fr. Caseys were under pressure they were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Billy Quirke to rattle the net for a second time. Keith Harnett added a magnificent long range point before the break to leave the Abbeyfeale four points in front. The half time score was Fr. Caseys 2-03, Feenagh/Kilmeedy 0-05.

Fr. Caseys quelled the early attacks of Feenagh/Kilmeedy at the start of the second half and stretched their lead to five points with a well taken long range point from Thomas Cahill. Billy Quirke was in great form and kicked two consecutive points, one from a free to leave Fr. Caseys on the road to victory. In the closing ten minutes both teams added a further two points with Paudie Smith and Shane O'Connor on target for Fr. Caseys. The eight point winning margin was truly deserved and could have been more only for some bad wides. This performance was a massive improvement on early rounds and it's great to see this talented team heading in the right direction under the guidance of Seamus McNamara. The final score was Fr. Caseys 3-08, Feenagh/Kilmeedy 1-06.
