Ballybrown club notes

May 18, 2015

All in Ballybrown would like to extend our sympathies to the families and friends of the late Maureen Hayes, Eileen O Shaughnessy and Nina Collery. May they rest in peace.

UNDER 15 HURLING SEMI FINAL Ballybrown 0-10 Monaleen 0-04 Avery large crowd turned up on Sunday in Monaleen and they were served up a thriller. Ballybrown played against the wind and the hill in the first half, and were first off the mark with a point from Cian Hall from a free. Two points from Monaleen one from a free and one from a sixty five had Monaleen ahead for the first and only time in the game. A free from Cian and two points from Barry O Connor saw the half time score at 0-04 to 0-02 in favour of Ballybrown.  Monaleen now playing up the hill were quick off the blocks in the second half and had drawn level with two points inside two minutes and the Ballybrown faithful were justifiably worried at this stage. They neednt have worried, four points from the O Connor clan had us back in command again. A long range point from Karl Buckley and another from Barry his sixth in the match finished the scoring. Ballybrown didnt have it all their own way in this game and it took two great saves from Conor O Neill in goals and a very hard working team hooking, blocking and a huge amount of skill to kill off the Monaleen challenge.

UNDER 12 HURLING Ballybrown 2.08 Rathkeale 0.00 Played in Clarina on Thursday evening this was a fine fast game of hurling.Ballybrown led by 2.03 to 0.00 at halftime. An excellent team performance where all the players were given a run was capped off with some excellent long range points from Cian Kirkby.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE Ballybrown 1-08 Crecora 1-08 Ballybrown looked to have this one in the bag for long periods in the match. Leading 1-04 to 0-03 at half time and stretched out the lead  to seven points at one stage before Crecora reeled us in and could have won it at the death. With both teams through to the City League final they will have to do it all over again date and venue to be decided.

JUNIOR A HURLING LEAGUE Ballybrown 0-18 Mungret 1-12 Played in Ballybrown on Thursday evening Ballybrown with the wind at their backs were 0-12 to 1-02 ahead at half time. Mungret stuck to their task in the second half and slowly narrowed the gap to bring it down to two points. Two points from Declan Normoyle stretched out the lead to four points, but Mungret again came back ans reduced the deficit to two points again. A point from a free from Nigel Mann proved to be the last score of the game and Ballybrown came away with the win but only after a real scare from Mungret.
