Camogie
Monaleen hosted an U12 blitz on Saturday and the conditions were perfect for camogie.
Our first match was very competitive against Ahane who had already played and won. Aoife Nelligan, Clodagh Power, Caoimhe Brady and Aoife Sheehan were very strong in midfield and half backs keeping Monaleen on the attack for much of the first half. Charlie Drury & Grace Clohessy combined well and Aoife Doyle struck the ball to the net for the first goal of the game. Grace with another goal and a point and an Aoife Nelligan point put Monaleen in a strong position at half time. Ahane scored 2 goals in the second half but Monaleen held out for the win.
Cappamore were next and while this too was a very competitive match Monaleen proved too strong. Mia O Halloran played brilliantly in midfield as did Emily O Halloran along with Emily & Amy O Brien in the forwards. Two great goals from Niamh Moloney and scores from Charlie Drury (1-1), Aoife Nelligan 0-1; Clodagh Power (1-1) & Aoife Doyle (1-0) meant that Monaleen ran out convincing winners in the end.
Niamh Moloney; Mia O Halloran; Emily O Brien; Amy O Brien; Aoife Nelligan; Charlie Drury; Mia O Halloran; Clodagh Power; Grace Clohessy; Emily O Halloran; Caoimhe Brady; Aoife Sheehan; Kerrie Carey; Juliette Pinson.
The next blitz is on Saturday in Cappamore at 11am while training continues for U12 and younger ages on Thursday at 6pm.
The U16 A league match was played in tough conditions in Peafield road on Thursday evening. With a lot of regulars missing the girls (many of who were u14) put up a fantastic performance v Croagh Kilfinny. Susan Fullen and Aine Doyle in the full back line defended resolutely throughout while Ellen Regan Magner and Maeve Rae in midfleld combined skill and great effort to keep Monaleen in touch to half time. A goal either side of half time proved decisive and it was the visitors who won the match 4-5 to 1-0. Plenty to build on for the season ahead!
