Askeaton GAA Club Notes

All County Hurling League
Askeaton 0-14 Crecora 1-12
We commenced the County league on Saturday last in perfect hurling conditions at the field. We had a strong panel available on the evening. A competitive first half saw us lead 0-7 to 0-6 at the break after some nice scores from Sean Whelan, David Holland and Alan Enright. The second half commenced with us taking control with our backs and midfield playing well and we progressed into a 3 point lead with 10 mins remaining with further points from Conor Barry, Mark Ranahan and Maurice Somers. Then against the run of play we conceded a goal and point which saw us down by 2 points with time running out, Maurice Sommers pointed a 65 after a great save from the Crecora keeper to reduce the difference to a point, but we failed to secure the equaliser after a few close calls.
Team: Michael O'Meara, Conor Enright, Robert Whelan, Paul Maher, Alan O'Shaughnessy, Shane Gallagher, Eoin Cuddihy, Declan Guerin, Mark Ranahan, Sean Whelan, Matthew O'Meara, Conor Barry, David Holland, Dervan Gallagher, Alan Enright. Subs used: Stephen O'Donnell, Maurice Somers, Cathal Anglim.

Next match in this competition is down for the 18th April away to St. Patrick's. Keep an eye on our page for times.

Training Friday evening @7.15

Minors:
The minors under the guidance of Pat O'Connell & John Dunne commence their championship this weekend with a home fixture against Glenroe the time has to be confirmed please check our Facebook page for updates.

We took on St.Kierans in the field on Monday evening in a challange match, Both teams struggled with numbers and we played a good hour's hurling which will hopefully stand to our lads, We rattled up as score of 3-19 and this probably should have been more but for some of the wides we hit. Hopefully we will have the eye tuned in for Friday evening and we can get a good start in this competition as there are a lot of tough games ahead of us. A number of training sessions and a couple of matches have taken place in recent weeks, these will hopefully have us primed for action.

Also good luck to our own William O'Meara and the Limerick Minor hurling team who commence their championship on Wednesday evening against Cork in Pairc Ui Rinn.

Team Limerick Clean Up
The club was delighted to be involved in the above event last Friday, congrats to all which was a major success throughout the county. It was noted the amount of litter on the By-Pass which appears to be a dumping ground for passing vehicles. Surly it is not a big thing for people to bring their rubbish home to their own bin.
