Suicide is claiming the lives of at least 800 people each year on the island of Ireland. These people include fathers and mothers, wives and husbands, sons and daughters, sisters and brothers, best friends and colleagues.

Cycle Against Suicide is a voluntary organisation that aims to:

* Raise Awareness among 6,000,000 people on the island of Ireland that 'it's ok not to feel ok; and that it's absolutely ok to ask for help'

* To ensure that the behaviour of those impacted is one of help seeking when needed for their mental wellbeing

Cycle Against Suicide was founded by Irish entrepreneur, Jim Breen. A visit to a Suicide Awareness group in Dublin 15 as part of an appearance on RTÉ'S documentary, The Secret Millionaire, and the subsequent impact of the programme, inspired Jim to continue to use his skills and influences to help raise awareness of the issue in Ireland and signpost people in need, to the considerable supports available for suicide prevention in Ireland.

We believe in a community-driven approach in all our activities which promotes sustainability. We understand that this is a complex fight and we remain positive and optimistic that a multi-level approach based on the promotion of help-seeking behaviour can result in a reduction in the number of suicides on the island of Ireland.

Together, shoulder to shoulder, we can break the cycle of suicide on the island Ireland. www.cycleagainstsuicide.com www.facebook.com/CycleAgainstSuicide

Homestays Newsletter

On 2nd May 2015 Cycle Against Suicide is coming to Limerick and we would like your help in accommodating cyclists for the night.

Cycle Against Suicide's core message that 'It's OK not to feel OK, and it's absolutely OK to ask for help.'

This year's Cycle is expected to attract up to 7,000 participants, each standing, shoulder to shoulder, to break the cycle of suicide on the island of Ireland.

The Cycle takes places over two weeks and many cyclists do 1400km around the entire island of Ireland raising awareness about the help that's available & encouraging people to talk.

The Homestays Programme sees homeowners all over Ireland provide a warm meal, a chance to freshen up and a bed to cyclists that are passing through their town. Feedback from last year's Cycle has shown that the experience proves to be just as rewarding for the hosts as it is the guests.

If you would like to host one or more cyclists as part of this year's Cycle Against Suicide, please contact Martin /Brendan by email [email protected] , [email protected] or by phone 087-4484278

You can also find out more about this event by logging on to www.cycleagainstsuicide.com or find us on Facebook.com/CycleAgainstSuicide.

Martin Hannan , Coordinator 2nd May Limerick Stopover

Martin Hannan is my name ,I'm a Limerick man and national volunteer with Cycle Against Suicide .

Background
On Monday April 27th we embark on a 14 day awareness journey from Belfast ,cycling around the island of Ireland ,ending in Dublin on Sunday May 10th, covering 1,400 kms.
I'm contacting you in my capacity as coordinator for the Limerick stop on 2nd May of this event.

Cycle Against Suicide is an initiative started by Irish entrepreneur, Jim Breen, as a result of his appearance on RTE's The Secret Millionaire programme. The main objective of the Cycle is to raise awareness of the considerable help and supports that are available for anyone battling depression, self-harm, at risk of suicide or those bereaved by suicide.
We understand that this is a complex fight and we remain positive and optimistic that a multi-level approach based on the promotion of help-seeking behaviour can result in a reduction in the number of suicides on the island of Ireland
The Cycle Against Suicide community is determined to reach people in every corner of the island of Ireland to let them know that; it's OK not to feel OK and it's absolutely OK to ask for help. Together, shoulder to shoulder, we can break the cycle of suicide on the island of Ireland.

My request to your club and members
On Saturday May 2nd the Cycle (500-600 cyclists ) will travel from Birr and arrive into Limerick at 5pm approx. We are looking for 300 beds to host this year's participants of Cycle Against Suicide.
