Patrickswell GAA notes

April 07, 2015

U-21 hurlers
The U-21 hurlers suffered defeat in the Premier Championship semi-final against Doon at the Gaelic Grounds.
Doon took full advantage of the stiff tailwind and hemmed Patrickswell inside their own 65-yard line for the opening twenty minutes.  During this period, the East club racked up a devastating 2-9 without reply.  Diarmuid Byrnes, Jack Kelleher and Cian Lynch scored points to mount a fightback, but Doon struck three unanswered points to hold a commanding 2-12 to 0-3 halftime lead.
Patrickswell had the wind in their favour during the second half, but they couldn't erode the deficit quickly enough.  Doon were content to minimise the damage and stifle the 'Well attacks.  Cian Lynch scored a goal, while Diarmuid Byrnes (0-2) and Paul O'Brien (0-1) slashed the arrears to nine points at 2-12 to 1-6.  Time was running out as both sides exchanged two points apiece to finish 2-14 to 1-8.

Hard luck to the players and management.  The performance was determined by the elements and not a fair reflection on the season to date.
