NEWCASTLE WEST GAA

INTO THE FINAL V CROAGH/KILFINNY THIS SATURDAY AT 4P.M. IN THE GARDEN TOWN

U21 Hurling West A Championship Semi-Final

Newcastle West ........4-14

Rathkeale .................0-11

Neville Park was the venue on Friday evening last and Jason Mullins refereed. It was dry and breezeless and coolish, excellent for hurling. The game had plenty of good hurling, and apart from a bit of niggling that developed in the second half, it was a sporting contest. We led at half time 3-8 to 0-7, all three goals very soft, resulting from the Rathkeale custodian misjudging high balls into the square. Matters were much closer in the second half as Rathkeale refused to let the heads drop and made every effort to close the ten point gap. However with the Hurley brothers leading the way with outstanding displays at wing back Seamus, centre forward Eoin and wing forward Brian, we limited Maurice Hurley's team to 0-4, scored a further 1-0 ourselves and deservedly qualified for the final v Croagh/Kilfinny, who hammered us in round 1. As we said the three Hurley brothers led by example and all who lined out gave 100%.

Team: Conor O'Sullivan, Darragh McMahon, Conor Barry, Cillian McMahon, Jack McCarthy, William Hurley, Seamus Hurley, Stephen Brosnan, Joey Healy, Shane Stack 1-1, Eoin Hurley 1-12, Brian Hurley 0-1, Daniel Copse, Eoin Murphy 2-0, Darragh Quilligan. Subs: A.J. O'Connor, Conor Relihan.

As said the final is a repeat of the round 1 game. Croagh/Kilfinny, a quality team of pace, skill, physique wil be odds on favourites. Hopefully we'll make a game of it. It is scheduled for Saturday next at 4p.m. in Ballingarry.

Senior Football West Championship Round 1

Newcastle West v Adare

The Bog Garden is the venue on St. Patrick's Day at 12 noon. We are the defending champions, winners in 2014 for the first time in fifteen years. We generally have the measure of Adare at senior football, but they pushed us all the way in the 2014 county championship.

Intermediate Hurling ACL

Newcastle West v Cappamore

The field is the venue next Saturday at 3p.m. but a postponement is likely due to West U21 A Hurling Final.

U14 Football Féile A 2015 Round 1

Newcastle West ..........0-1

Fr. Casey's ...............5-12

The field was the venue on Sunday morning at 11.30a.m., Mick Flaherty refereed and conditions and weather were as perfect as you could get for mid March. The Fealesiders looked a quality team in the warm-up, physically big, skilled, composed and comfortable on the ball. The report is that they fancy their chances of winning the Limerick's top Féile competition and representing the county at national level; we don't know if this will happen but they were excellent at the field on Sunday scoring at will and deservedly qualifying for the next round. They would have won by more but for the excellence of our goalie Ethan Hurley who made at least four top class saves. In addition our lads, though opposed by a bigger, more skilful, top quality outfit never dropped the heads and tried 100% to the final whistle. One can't do more. Well done and best of luck to Fr. Casey's Michael Cremin, Jodie Woulfe, Todd Donovan, Daniel Normoyle, Conor Walker, Ruadhan O'Connor, Luke Gleeson, Jack Duggan, Evan McMahon, Brian Foley 0-1, Morgan Sheehan, Evan Sheehan, Rial Magann. Subs: Oisín O'Sullivan, Michael Nash, Mikie McNamara, Dylan Singh, Cian Daly.

Ireland Interclub Championship Senior Hurling Final

Kilmallock v Ballyhale Shamrock

Many from the county will have travelled to Croke Park on St. Patrick's Day to cheer on the Sparrows.  Those who did'nt will have been glued to radio or television in their thousands with our own Liam Óg Aherne com-mentating on Limerick Live 95 FM.

Intercounty U21 Football Senior Football Senior Hurling

SH: Limerick 0-21, Offaly 1-21

SF: Limerick 2-10, Fermanagh 2-19

U21 F: Limerick 2-12, Cork 5-8.

The 2000 plus who patronised the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday evening last were disappointed with the outcome which means another year in Division 1B for Limerick's flagship hurling team. The U21 footballers exceeded expectations on Wednesday. Cian Sheehan 1-0 was on the starting 15, Gavin Riedy came on as a sub, Joey Healy was also on the panel and Declan Brouder managed. To conclude the senior footballers found table-toppers Fermanagh a bridge too far on Sunday and are now in a relegation battle. Ian Corbett 0-1, Jamie Lee, Cian Sheehan are the club palyers involved and Declan Brouder selects.

The hurlers v Laois, the footballers v Louth or Clare are the next rounds.
