Limerick 3-20

Cork 1-16

Limerick were crowned Waterford Crystal Cup champions for the first time since 2006 when two goals from Adrian Breen helped them to a comfortable victory over Cork in Mallow last night.

While winning manager TJ Ryan - who captained Limerick to their last success in the competition - will be delighted to get his hands on some early season silverware, he won't be getting carried away. Cork fielded a largely experimental side and it was the Treaty's greater experience that told in the end.

An early Stephen Moylan goal propelled the hosts into a 1-2 to 0-2 lead, but a goal from the returning Gavin O'Mahony and points from Cian Lynch and James Ryan enabled Limerick to take control. Cork replied with scores from Brian Murray, Brian Lawton and Cian McCarthy to reduce the gap to two points before Breen's first major helped the winners to a 2-11 to 1-9 interval lead.

Breen added a second goal in the second period to help the Shannonsiders to a 10-point win.
