Fr Casey's club notes

The Year in Review - 2014
2014 was another highly successful year for Fr. Caseys GAA Club with our Minor Footballers capturing the County Championship and our Senior and Junior A team both capturing County League Titles. Our Under 13 Footballers also captured a County Title which was a fitting reward for the hard work being done by our Bord na Nog Club. This year marked the 130th anniversary of the foundation of our club and I have no doubt Father William Casey would be proud to see that GAA is very much alive and well in the town of Abbeyfeale.

The highlight of the year was our Minor Footballers capturing the clubs 10th County Title and the third title in four years. In the County Final they defeated Tory Gaels by 2-13 to 1-12 after a flawless display. It was a long year with ups and downs but when it came to the business end of the season this team really rose to the challenge. The future of our club looks very bright if these players can continue to progress to Senior level.

Our Seniors topped their championship group and reach the County Semi-Final against St. Patricks. Level with 10 minutes remaining it was St. Patricks who got the crucial goal to end our championship involvement. This team was rewarded with silverware however in the form of the County League. The delayed 2013 League Final took place in October against Sean Finns. Fr. Caseys were much too strong for their opponents on the night and won the tie comprehensively with over 15 points to spare. We were also extremely proud to have three players involved in the Limerick Senior Football Team this year namely Padraig Browne, John Riordan and Michael Sheehan. Also James O'Mara represented us at Under 21 level.

Our Junior Footballers reached three finals in 2014. They were defeated in the West Championship Final by Glin who later went on to claim County honours. In the County Championship which following Kilteely/Dromkeen ended our campaign at the Quarter Final stage. A good run in the West Intermediate Championship was rewarded with a place in the final against St. Senan's, but the team failed to match their stronger opponents in a one sided final. Our Juniors did taste success in the form of a County League Title however, defeating Ballylanders by 1-16 to 0-10 in the delayed 2013 Final.

Our Under 21 Footballers qualified from the group stages but were agonisingly eliminated at the Quarter Final stage, losing out to St. Kierans but just one point in a game which could have gone either way. The majority of this team are still underage next year and with recent Minor successes we are hoping that another Under 21 County Title is just around the corner.

Overall it can be seen as a successful year in the development of the club. Our supporters have played a major part in 2014 through both financially and followed our teams to every corner of the county. The unremitting involvement of the GAA enthusiasts of Abbeyfeale is a vital aspect in the search for success and continued development of the club. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the club in 2014. It most certainly has been a great effort by all involved at every level from committee members to coaches, supporters to players, and it is hoped that further progress can be achieved in 2015. Finally, we would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and New Year.
