Ballybrown club notes

December 22, 2014

UNDER 21 FOOTBALL SEMI FINAL Ballybrowns season was cut short on Friday 19th December when we were beaten in the semi final of the premier football championship.  Played under lights in Mick Neville Park Ballybrown started the brighter and had a number of attacks in the early stages before Athea opened the score after eight minutes with a point from a free and added another a minute later. Bryan Griffen opened our account with a point but we were dealt a killer blow when Athea got a goal against the run of play. Ballybrown who were playing against a strong breeze and having missed a number of frees called on our goalie Andrew Cliffe to take a free from 35 yards out and he slotted the ball between the posts.  Athea scored a point and Ballybrown scored two  from play to leave the half time score Athea 1-03 Ballybrown0-04. The second half saw us piling on the pressure but again scores were hard to come by and again Athea scored the first two points of the half. Two points one from play and the second from sub Tom Clancy from a long range free cut the deficit to a two points. Ballybrown were playing very well and it seemed inevitable that we would bridge that two point gap, but missing scores meant we did not score again while Athea scored two points in injury time to secure the win for them. Ballybrown started this campaign with a draw against Abbeyfeale on the 24th October not having touched a football all year and it speaks volumes for these youngsters and the management team that they were so competitive and very unlucky not to be in a county final on St. Stephens day.
