Dromcollogher/ Broadford GAA Notes By: Gareth Meaney
Notes for Wednesday and Thursday 17th and 18th of December 2014
SECRETARY'S REPORT 2014
A Cairde Gael it is my great pleasure to bring the report on the activities of our club both on and off the field for the past year. The year 2014 will not be remembered for championships won, but while there was no major honours our club was well represented and contested many great games only to lose out by narrow margins in many of them.
Our Minor hurlers won the West B championship which was to be the only championship won this year.
FOOTBALL
In the West Senior championship we lost to St Kieran's in the quarter final by one point, after defeating St Marys Sean Finns in round 1.
County Senior Football League. We received two walk overs, won 1, and lost 3, and did not make the play offs.
County Senior football Championship In the group stages we won 4, and lost 1, to qualify for Semi Final only to lose to Ballylanders the eventual winners.
Junior B Football Championship after winning 3 games in group we eventually lost out to Ballysteen the eventual winners in the Semi Final.
West U21 Football Championship. We lost in the Semi Final to Shannon Gaels by a narrow margin injuries played a huge part in our loss missing key players.
Minor A/B Football Championship we qualified for the B final only to lose out to a very strong Granagh/ Ballingarry /Banogue by a narrow margin.
HURLING
All County Hurling Intermediate League we lost all four games by big margins. In the West JAHL we did not make play offs after a good drawn game with Croagh/Kilfinny.
In the West Championship Junior A Hurling Championship after one win two losses and a walk over we lost to St. Marys/Sean Finns after a good performance by a narrow margin.
We lost both our games in the U21 West A and B Hurling Championship. This was very disappointing as we seemed to have a strong panel, but unfortunately the management were only notified of their appointment one week before game after they were ratified in November, no training was organised for players, this is not good enough and the players deserved better, people who appointed this management team should show a lot more responsibility and have some respect for players and club.
West Minor A/B Hurling Championship. We missed out qualifying for A championship and qualified for B final. We defeated Templeglantine by two points but lost to Cappamore by two goals in the county Semi-Final. Again injuries were to catch up on us here in this game, and also the non-appearance of some players. A more detailed report will be given on all activities by PRO Gareth Meaney in his report.
We congratulate all who played, managed, and worked with management of our County teams this year. We are very proud of them and it is fantastic to see our club so well represented. I would like to congratulate John Cregan on his outstanding work as chairman of Limerick Football Board. His worked has not gone unnoticed and huge strides have been made during his chairmanship. We wish them all well again in the year ahead and hope success will follow them.
Bord na Nog has gone from strength to strength and this year pride of place must go to our u13 hurlers who brought county success. This is a wonderful achievement and congratulations to all involved in this success. A lot is being done but a lot more to be done and again help is the key to success as has been proved by u13 hurlers. I am glad to report that a lot of progress has been made by our hurling committee with our senior players coming on board to help at all levels. Well done to officers involved and to let you know we are always available to help out at any time. It is very important that any managers, coaches, or selectors taking up positions are all Garda Veted and coaches and managers have attended coaching courses.
I would like to congratulate Broadford handball club on another great year. They seem to grow and grow every year we wish them well for 2015.
Our ladies football teams have again had a great year with championships coming to the club. We wish all concerned well in 2015.
As always finance is very important to any club and we are no exception. Earlier this year Treasurer John Cregan and myself secured what can only be described as a fantastic three year sponsorship deal with our local Credit Union. I would like to thank the management and staff of the credit union but especially to Chairman Gerry O Brien for his wonderful contribution to making this sponsorship become a reality. I would like to welcome Gerry here today to our AGM and we look forward to another two years working with them. John will deal in more detail in his report of all fundraising events and financial position of the club.
After securing our sponsorship deal it was decided to look at re designing our club jersey, this was done with the help of senior players, and committee members. It turned out to be a huge hit with players and public alike with many orders coming in for replica jerseys.
I would like to thank Noel and Nora Morrissey for their contribution to the club again this year and also to all business people in the parish for their outstanding loyalty, and financial support to our club.
I would to thank our ladies club for their help and co-operation during the year at various events held at club house, well done to all concerned.
Some members of our club lost loved ones during the year. On behalf of the club I wish to extend our sincere sympathy to all concerned, our prayers and thoughts are with you on this sad occasion.
I would like to thank Fr. O Dea, and to all who contributed in offering Mass today for all our deceased members.
I want to thank all our mentors, and back room staff for their outstanding loyalty and dedication to our teams this year. Special thanks to our players who again this year have been wonderful ambassadors for our club you are a credit to the parish, and above all your families well done lads.
I want to thank my fellow officers for their help and advice to me. To our very small but hard working committee for the Trojan work they put in throughout the year in attending meetings and fundraising. To our supporters and people of the parish I thank you for your vocal and financial support throughout the year.
So we come to the end of another year and the beginning of another around the corner. I would like to wish all our teams, mentors, and players best of good luck in the year ahead.
It is with deep sadness and regret that I am stepping down as Secretary of the club. I have seen huge success over the past three years especially with our football teams, but I think it is time for new faces in a few positions with new ideas and a vision on how to take the club forward. We are big club and it is time to look forward and make plans for the future. Why can't we have a three year plan, for both on and off the field. Have we looked at Bord na Nog to see how progress is there, instead of solo running to join up with other clubs to take the easy option. It is time to sit down and look at our club going forward if we are to be successful.
I want to wish all our players, mentors, and supporters a very happy Christmas and a happy and sporting 2015.
Best wishes to all!
