U21 Premier Football Championship Co. Quarter Final

Saint Kierans's 1-13
Fr. Casey's 1-12
The under 21 footballers made the journey into Rhebogue on Friday night last to take on Fr. Casey's in the county quarter final in what turned out to be a highly entertaining and competitive game of football. Having defeated Grange in a playoff to reach this stage of the competition we were hopeful of giving a good account of ourselves. It was the Abbeyfeale men who opened the scoring on a bitterly cold winter's night. Sean McSweeney, who was a major threat all evening, raised four white flags in the first half. Our other scores in this half came from Seamus Mangan and James O'Connor after a great forward drive from defence, leaving the teams level on 6 points each at the short whistle. We upped our performance level at the beginning of the second half, with James Hough and Shane Lynch leading by example at the back. Cillian Enright goaled for us with 10 minutes remaining, finishing calmly to the net following good work by Darragh Treacy and Patrick Liston. This score put us 5 points in the lead.  The Fealesider's clawed their way back into the game to leave the minimum of scores between the sides at the final whistle. Daniel Madden, Brendan McCarthy and Eoin Moran defended gallantly in the dying moments of the game, repelling many Abbeyfeale attacks. Both teams must be acknowledged for serving up a quality game in such testing conditions. We now meet old rivals Newcastle West in the semi-final of the championship. Newcastle West, who are amalgamated with Monagea, will start as warm favourites having defeated our boys in the group stage of the competition; however the sight of a magpie jersey often brings out the best in a Saint Kieran's team.
