NEWCASTLE WEST GAA CLUB

UNDER 21 FOOTBALL PREMIER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

We're into the semi final and await confirmation of who we play etc. Ballybrown, winner of the other group, are also into the semi. St. Kieran's qualified for a quarter final v Fr. Casey's, having come out of the third place play off with Shamrock Gaels and Bruff at the weekend. The weekend's quarter final St. Finn's/Cappagh v Athea/Mountcollins ended in a draw. Semi finals on St. Stephen's Day are looking likely. Training continues.

Late, late newsflash! Semi final v Fr. Casey's or St. Kieran's scheduled for Friday December 19th (but subject to change), County Final 21st or 26th December.

West Limerick

Colleges ......................6-11

Blackwater CS ..........1-14

County Minor Seamus Flanagan scored 5-4 at Charleville as West kept their quarter final place. As things stand, if Ard Scoil Rís lose to St. Flannan's in their final group game, West Limerick Colleges Desmond College and Hazelwood and Colaiste na Trócaire, Rathkeale, will be into the quarter finals. William Hurley and his first cousins, the brother Brian and Seamus Hurley, are the Newcastle West players involved.

SARSFIELD CUP

Congratulations to those from the club who were involved in the West's recent win. Newcastle West players on board were Ethan Hurley, (Killoughteen NS), Evan McMahon, Conor Walker, Oisin Enright  (capt), (all the Courtenay BNS) and Rial Magann (An Gael Scoil), while James Hennessy (who has done sterling work as club coach for years) was a mentor. In addition Courtenay school teacher -Diarmuid O'Connor is the main man organisation wise. Well done to all.

AGM

The annual general meeting of the club takes place on Saturday 10th January 2015 at the club rooms. Hopefully there will be a standing room only attendance to get the New Year off to a positive and purposeful start.

 

COISTE NA nÓG

The Coiste looks after teams from U16 to beginners and as usual is looking for helpers, mentors to help with teams in 2015. Anyone willing to come on board and help in any way is asked to communicate same to John Hurley 086 3867896. It is hoped to apportion 5/6 mentors to each of the teams - U16, U14, U12, U10, U8, Beginners - Hurling and Football - the Coiste looks after. Training will be provided for interested mentors.

To 'put it up' to a Kerry team in football is a major achievement. So congratulations to Glin on giving such a good account of themselves in Mallow on Sunday last in an excellent game. Those unable to travel enjoyed the analysis provided by Michael and Johnny Walsh on West Limerick 102.

LOTTERY

Last Monday's draw took place at the Old Mill Bar. The numbers drawn were 5, 14, 21 and 29. The jackpot of €20,000 was not won. The €100 special bonus prize was won by Patrick Kenny c/o Peter Culhane. The five €40 lucky dip winners were: Mike Neville c/o Seán Roche, Pat and Megan c/o the Corner Bar, Colm Noonan c/o Seán Roche, Jimmy Hanley c/o Ed  Lynch's, Liam Cremin c/o Liam Cremin.

The draw for the jackpot of €20,000, the five €40 lucky dips, the €100 special bonus prize and the five turkeys, five hams and five bottles of brandy takes place at the Ballintemple on Monday next, December 15th, at 11pm. The club thanks all who are supporting, promoting and hosting the lottery.
