U21 County Championship
Fr. Caseys 1-10 Athea/Mountcollins 1-12
Our U21 team played Feale Rangers in the County Championshuip on Friday evening at Mich Neville Park, Rathkeale. Of course with Feale Rangers being an amalgamation of our neighbours Mountcollins and Athea, it was much anticipated encounter. Fr. Casey's had the perfect start as they went three points ahead with Cormac Roche converting a free and Eoghan Kelly registering two points of his own. Feale Rangers however hit back with three scores of their own to level the game mid way through the first half. Both teams then exchanged points at either end with Chris Smith putting the ball over the bar for the Abbeyfeale men. Fr. Casey's then took the initiative heading towards the break with Cormac Roche getting two points and Johnaton Lyons converting a free to give their side a three point advantage. Feale Rangers did however manage to score a point just before the interval to leave two between the teams at half time. The three point lead for Fr. Casey's was restored soon after the restart as Lyons registered a point through another free. This deficit seemed to spark the Feale Rangers players into life as they responded very quickly and scored a goal at the other end to bring the sides level. This was a major turning point in the game with Feale Rangers turning the tide in their favour with the amalgamated team, spanning four parishes, pushing on to score five unanswered points. An uphill battle now faced the Casey's men but they tried desperately to get back into the game. Both sides traded points at either end but the goal that was required for the Abbeyfeale men came too late, albeit a great finish from Keith Harnett. The final score was Fr. Casey's 1-10 Feale Rangers 1-12.
