Monaleen GAA Club Notes

November 10, 2014

LOTTO:   The jackpot currently stands at €3,300.  Last week's numbers were 4, 9, 12 and 22, and there was no winner.  Lucky dip winners were J. Butler, P/Y Sheahan, L. Mulcahy and JJ/E Fitzpatrick.  Next week's jackpot is €3,600.  Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs.  Please support us as this support is vital to the development of the club.

Intermediate Hurling: As we send the notes to print, the Intermediate County Hurling Final is due to be played in Bruff on Saturday 15th November, at 2.30 p.m.   However, Pallasgreen have sought a deferral,  so this is subject to change.  Best of luck to our lads in their preparations.  Watch our facebook page for updates.

Race Night: Monaleen GAA Club is currently commencing a substantial redevelopment programme which involves a much needed improvement in our playing facilities to cater for an ever increasing playing population.  The lands have been acquired, planning permission has recently been approved and expenditure in the region of €250,000 is required to cover the costs involved in providing a state of the art hurling wall, juvenile playing field and all-weather tennis courts.  We do have limited existing resources and some lotto funding has been approved.  However we do need to raise monies locally and in this regard we're holding a race night in the clubhouse in the coming weeks.  You can help in any of the following ways:
1. Become a Race Sponsor. -  €100.00
2. Advertise in the race programme.  Full page €100. Half page €60.00. Quarter page €40.00
3.  Nominate a horse. Owner €20.00.Trainer €10.00. Jockey €10.00
For further information talk to Alan Kitson, Tom Crosse, Conor Harty, Kevin Vaughan or Caroline O'Kane.
We also invite you to come along and enjoy an evening's entertainment which will involve Tote Betting, Finger Food and light entertainment.  A donation will be made to the Hope Foundation Transition Year Immersion Trip which is being undertaken by local students attending Castletroy College.  This is in keeping with Club Policy to make a charitable donation on an annual basis.

LADIES FOOTBALL: For all news and updates, like the Monaleen Ladies Football Facebook page.
Gaelic for Mothers & Others: Gaelic for Mothers and Others (G4MOs).
Our G4Mos went to Murroe Boher on Saturday and came away with a great win. On the day our ball handling skills, running off the ball and support play were excellent. Well done to all. Thank you to Murroe Boher for their very enjoyable hospitality after the game.  This is a great group of ladies the vast majority of whom are recent starters and have great fun while developing football skills.  Feel free to join us. C ome along Wednesdays 7:30-8:30 to the clubhouse pitch or ask Caroline O' Kane 087 6448807 for further details.

CAMOGIE:
U13 Camogie Autumn City League: Monaleen brought a strong panel to Cappamore in the last of the Autumn League matches on Sunday 9th Nov. Cappamore got the better of the opening stages with a well taken goal after 5 minutes, however the Monaleen girls with the weather behind them fought back to lead at half time by 2-2 to 1-0 with scores from Eimar Morgan, Emma Rea, Laura Hession and Emma Donohoe. Monaleen continued to dominate in the second half with strong performances throughout the pitch, including Lucy D'Arcy in the full back position, Laura Hession and Maeve Rae in midfield and Eimar Morgan, Kealin Corcoran and Emma Donohoe in the half forward line. Some fine goalkeeping from Caitlin Bonfil in the first half and Abby McCarthy in the second helped to limit the Cappamore scores whilst at the other end Ella Hession's relentless pressure produced 2 more goals. It finished Monaleen 4-2, Cappamore 2-1. With performances improving each week, we look forward to the final next Sunday where we face Mungret.
Monaleen: Caitlin Bonfil, Abby McCarthy, Lucy D'Arcy, Rachel Shinners, Ciara McDonnell, Saoirse Lane, Laura Burke, Laura Hession (1-0), Maeve Rae, Eimar Morgan (0-1), Kealin Corcoran, Emma Donohoe (0-1), Roisin D'Arcy, Aoife D'Arcy, Emma Rea, Francesca Kearns, Ella Hession (2-0), Aoife Doyle.
Junior Camogie: Our first season at Junior grade ended on Saturday with defeat to an experienced Crecora side in Ballyagran.  With a place in the final at stake this semi was always going to be hard fought.  But despite getting an early lead our girls did not perform to their best and the opportunity to play in the final in our first year was gone.  However in a season when so many players improved and had great games Aisling Doyle stood out for Monaleen on the day with a great performance at wing back. Already the prospect of challenging again in 2015 is something to look forward to.
Monaleen panel members: Caoimhe Lyons, Aisling Doyle, Eileen Russell, Grainne Fullen, Aoife Hogan, Megan O Mara; Eilish Mackey; Sinead Quinn; Niamh Holmes & Niamh Doyle.
U11: The U11 girls had a great win on Sunday morning in Caherdavin. The final score did not reflect how close this game was and what a great effort for the Monaleen girls to hold the home side to no score. Next weekend is busy with a semi final v Crecora on Saturday at 10am in Monaleen and an 'A' or 'B' final to follow on Sunday. Monaleen 5-2 Na Piarsaigh 0-0
Aoife Nelligan, Ella Hession(4-0), Grace Clohessy(2-0), Aoife Doyle(0-2), Mia O Halloran; Juliette Pinson, Charley Drury, Fiona Gleeson, Emily O'Brien, Caoimhe Brady, Aoife Sheehan, Laura Brennan, Emily O'Halloran, Anna Flanne

U12 Football: 2002 Boys Football U13 County Final  Last Saturday our U12 footballers reached their first (of many!) county finals. We were playing at U13 level for experience and got to the final on the back of three great wins in October. We played in Rathkeale against St Kieran's of Ardagh in the final. We had a strong line up of players on the day and our loyal supporters came out in force to cheer us on. St Kieran's were a very strong, physical but fair team and ran out comfortable winners in the end but that was not to take away from excellent performances all round by our boys. The year (and two years in some cases) difference in ages showed but our lads will be all the stronger for the experience. We went back to the Monaleen clubhouse afterwards for some food and refreshments to celebrate the boys great achievement of reaching the county final.  The panel on the day were: Paul Brennan, Paul O'Shea, Nicky O Dwyer, David Mullowney, Liam Dillon, Lee Bennett, Xavier Henry, Harry Doyle, Conor Carew, Ronan Lyons, Lachlann McHale, Niall Curtin, Donnacha O Dálaigh, Eoin O Driscoll, Luca Grimes, Jamie McNamara, Mark Collins, Ryan Power, Conor Yelverton, Noel Clancy and Cian Mulkearn.
