October 27, 2014

Ballybrown GAA club would like to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the late Raymond Costello, Mary Garvey, Christina (Bunty) Guirey and Kitty McNamara. May they rest in peace.

UNDER 21 FOOTBALL Ballybrown renewed football rivalry with Fr Caseys after an absence of 3 years last Friday.
At a cold Mick Neville park the match got underway @8.24 and warmed the hearts of both sets suppourters.
In a tense opening 11 mins both defensives dominated and the score was 1 point each. Ballybrown point courtesy of Adrian Roberts who soloed from inside his own half and completed the move with an inspirational score. The following 5 minutes was Fr Caseys golden period.A well taken goal and 3 unanswered points had regular U 21 Premier Football Champions well in the ascendency. Two points from frees before half - time , one long range by  dependable Goalkeeper Andrew  Cliffe. had the interval score 1-4 to 3 points in favour Fr.Caseys. Ballybrown started the 2nd Half in whirlwind fashion. A stunnning Gooch like goal from David hall within a minute of restart  and some unanswered points had Ballybrown leading by 2 points midway  the second half. A well taken goal by Fr Caseys had ballybrown trailing narrowly with 10 mins left. A feature of the 2nd  half was 5 well taken points by Tom Clancy , two from play. A well taken free by Tom in injury time levelled the scores Ballybrown 1-9  to Fr Caseys 2-6. A wonderful performance by a dedicated bunch of lads that are the backbone of the immediate future Ballybrown Gàa Club. All 17 members of the  squad that featured made a significant contribution  and on this occassion the entire team deserve the accolade Man of the Match. U 21 Premier Football Championship continues again next Friday at 8.15 in Kilbreedy (martinstown) against Oola and all suppourt greatly appreciated.

BALLYBROWN NATIONAL SCHOOL Ballybrown school were back in the Gaelic Grounds on Tuesday with both our boys and girls in their football finals. Our girls were up first and after playing with the wind they were held scoreless at half time. St Pauls scored a point early in the second half and when they followed it up with a goal with six minutes to go it looked like they were going to take the honours. Ballybrown girls are not known for giving up and true to form we got a point back followed by a goal to level matters and with the last kick of the match Kate Mulqueen scored the winner for Ballybrown. Our boys came into this final unbeaten and we were very hopeful but on this occasion we failed to get going and we were well beaten on the day. This team are much better than this and im sure they will bounce back for the hurling. May I take this opportunity to thank Ballybrown National school teachers for their effort in promoting hurling and football in the school it is very much appreciated.

PARISH LEAGUE We held our parish league on Saturday 18th October, with a threat of rain all day but thankfully it didnt come until we were finished. With over 90 youngsters playing nine matches between themselves it was a fantastic day. A large crowd were treated to a feast of hurling with many of our future stars on display. Sadly there had to be losers as well as winners but at the end of the day you are all winners and our under 12s are just four short years from playing senior hurling. Tony O Grady was on hand to present the O Grady cup and Jacko and Margaret were there to present their cup and we thank you for your support.
