County Intermediate Cup Final: St. Kieran's 0.16 Caherline 0.7
The intermediate hurlers recorded a comprehensive victory over Caherline in a windswept Martinstown on Saturday evening in the County Cup final. The victory was a nice way to cap off the season against a Caherline side that were highly motivated for the task at hand in the opening period as they played with the assistance of a stiff breeze. While playing against the elements in the opening period which hindered our scoring opportunities we played well and went in at the break only trailing for three points which was always going to play to our advantage as the breeze was so strong. The opening five minutes of the second period saw a dramatic change in the outcome of the encounter as early scores from Donie Nolan and Anthony Molyneaux quickly reduced the deficit and put us into a three point lead from which we never looked back. we put together some nice passages of play in the second period and to be fair to Caherline they worked hard to get back into the game but our backs stood firm in particular Paudie McCarthy and Patrick Windle who cleared a vast amount of ball during the half. Up front scores were coming easily now as the wind favoured us heavily. In saying that we still had to make the scores and the level of sharpness on display was quite pleasing given that we have very little done in the past number of weeks. With a resounding nine point victory at the final whistle the victory was a nice way to finish off the year in which silverware across the board has been minimal with the exception of the West Junior B Football League. With intermediate status retained for 2015 we can move forward into the New Year and hopefully build and take another step forward in the County Championship.
