Monaleen GAA Club Notes

October 20, 2014

LOTTO:   Following the spectacular win of the week before, the lotto jackpot revered to €3,000.  Numbers drawn were 14, 15, 22 and 27.  There was no winner.  Lucky dip winners were M. Fitzgerald, D. Dineen, K. McAuley and C. O'Leary .  Next week's jackpot is  €3,600.  Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs.  Please support us as this support is vital to the development of the club.

Race Night: Monaleen GAA Club is currently commencing a substantial redevelopment programme which involves a much needed improvement in our playing facilities to cater for an ever increasing playing population.  The lands have been acquired, planning permission has recently been approved and expenditure in the region of €250,000 is required to cover the costs involved in providing a state of the art hurling wall, juvenile playing field and all-weather tennis courts.  We do have limited existing resources and some lotto funding has been approved.  However we do need to raise monies locally and in this regard we're holding a race night in the clubhouse on Friday 21st November at 9pm.  You can help in any of the following ways:
1. Become a Race Sponsor. -  €100.00
2. Advertise in the race programme.  Full page €100. Half page €60.00. Quarter page €40.00
3.  Nominate a horse. Owner €20.00.Trainer €10.00. Jockey €10.00
For further information talk to Alan Kitson, Tom Crosse, Conor Harty, Kevin Vaughan or Caroline O'Kane.
We also invite you to come along and enjoy an evening's entertainment which will involve Tote Betting, Finger Food and light entertainment.  A donation will be made to the Hope Foundation Transition Year Immersion Trip which is being undertaken by local students attending Castletroy College.  This is in keeping with Club Policy to make a charitable donation on an annual basis.

JUNIOR B HURLING COUNTY FINAL:  Finished a DRAW on Sunday last. Monaleen 0-09 Doon 0-09.
In front of a great crowd in Caherconlish on Sunday last, we battled massively and ground out a tough draw. With Doon leading by a solitary point heading into injury time, Simon Griffin earned a crucial free which Dave Hennessy duly pointed. A hectic final few minutes ensued with both teams having a chance to clinch the win. The game was nip and tuck throughout and everyone gave their all. The replay date and venue will be decided early this week. Details will be posted on our facebook page as soon as we know.
TEAM: C. O'Dwyer, B O'Dell, K Mullane, N Macken (0-01), P O'Kane, D Smith, D Pond, P McCarthy (0-01), F Nash, S Griffin, D Mulhall, D Lehane, P Griffin, D Hennessy (0-07, 6F), S Ryan.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING SEMI FINAL:  Monaleen v Glenroe, Kilmallock. 1pm. Saturday 25th.  Our intermediate hurlers are just one step away from a county final. George Fitzpatrick U13 Invitation Tournament: We hosted the George Fitzpatrick  on Saturday last. St Ailbes, Aherlow & West Clare Gaels joined us in a great celebration of football.  The quality of the football was excellent all round.  Congratulations to St Ailbes who won the tournament by beating Aherlow in a game which went to extra time to decide the winner.  We are grateful to members of the Fitzpatrick Family who joined us during the day presenting the trophy.  Thank you to the parents who provided fabulous hospitality and to Ulster Bank Castletroy who sponsored this afternoon's event.
Minor Football:   Despite a heroic effort, an understrength Groody Gaels (combination of Monaleen + St Pats) were narrowly defeated by a strong St Brigid's team in their U18 Minor League match played today in Herbertstown. Played in testing conditions, hot favourites St Brigid's were put to the pin of their collars to defeat a Groody Gaels team that once again showed great character and potential for a team that has just recently formed. The final score was St Brigid's 5-9 ; Groody Gaels 4-7. Groody Gaels now go forward to a County Semi-Final against Adare in the next 2 weeks. Well done to the Monaleen girls who played their hearts out today, Lauren O Dell, Caoimhe Lyons, Megan O Mara, Shalini Kujur and Aine Hegarty. Training continues on Wednesday evenings at 8pm in St Pats Gaa pitch in Rhebogue. New players welcome.
Munster Junior Championship.  Congratulations to Murroe/ Boher who won the Munster Junior Final on Saturday. Well done to Michelle Norris who won the player of the match. 2002 Footballers: The 2002 footballers played their first U13b league match on Thursday on the Peafield Rd pitch against the Pallasgreen U13 team. We were playing up a year to give the boys some experience at this level. We played full pitch and full-size goals for the first time! We were under enormous pressure from the start and but for fine goalkeeping by David Mullowney we could have been 2 goals down within 5 minutes. Conor Carew, Christopher Nwankho, Paul Brennan and Paul O'Shea had great games in defence while Cian Mulkearn , Lachlann McHale and Mark Collins fought hard for every ball. Up front Harry Doyle, Liam Dillon and Xavier Henry kept us in touch with some great scores but we went into half time 2 points down. In the second half, Lee Bennett and Ryan Power won some good ball around centre field. We then started to spread the ball wider and the fitness of Donnacha O'Dálaigh, Niall Curtin, Eoin O'Driscoll came to the fore and we ended up winning by 4 points. Well done to all the players. Our next match is on Monday 20th at 6pm against South Liberties away. Thanks to all the parents and families who supported us. It's a great start to our league campaign. and Ryan Power.
