Patrickswell GAA Club notes

Senior hurlers

Our Senior hurlers will contest the County Cup Final against Effin on Sunday October 19 at 1.45pm at the Gaelic Grounds.  Best wishes to the players and management.  It's a great chance of silverware and to retain the trophy.

Junior A hurlers

The Junior A hurlers were eliminated from the County Championship after a 2-11 to 1-11 semi-final defeat to Feohanagh.  There were just twenty seconds on the clock when the 'Well were caught cold by a Feohanagh goal.  When Patrickswell settled into the match, they dominated possession and scored two points in reply.  However, Feohanagh plundered another breakaway goal to lead by 2-1 to 0-2 after ten minutes.  Patrickswell stuck to their task and notched three unanswered points to trim the deficit at 2-1 to 0-5.  There was an immediate response from Feohanagh as they scored three points without reply.  After twenty minutes, the West Men had built a comfortable 2-4 to 0-5 advantage.  Thankfully, Patrickswell finished the first half strongly and slashed the deficit to three points (2-5 to 0-8) by the interval.

The early stages of the second half were largely dominated by Feohanagh.  Patrickswell scored the opening point, but were driven backwards by four consecutive points.  There were fifteen minutes remaining and the 'Well were behind by two goals at 2-9 to 0-9.  The teams exchanged two points apiece as Patrickswell attempted to bridge the gap without success.  In the closing minutes, the 'Well snatched a goal to set up the grandstand finale at 2-11 to 1-11.  Entering injury time, we placed the Feohanagh goal under siege and caused a few goalmouth scrambles.  Unfortunately, our opponents' defence held firm and the referee ended the contest.  Hard luck to the players and management.  It was a great season with positive hurling throughout.

Junior A footballers

Patrickswell travel to Knocklong for the County quarter-final against Galtee Gaels on Tuesday October 14 at 8pm.

U-14 hurlers

The U-14 hurlers were defeated by Na Piarsaigh in the final of the County Championship by 2-10 to 0-10.  Hard luck boys!

Camogie

The U-16 girls lost out to Kilmallock by one point in the County Final.  It was a very competitive game, with some excellent skill shown by both sides.  While Patrickswell led by two points at half-time, Kilmallock emerged as narrow winners by 1-3 to 1-2.  Well done to Ailish Byrnes for making the County Minor Panel for 2015.  In addition, Shannon Gillane, Leah Van Veen and Emma Barry were named in the County Minor Development panel for 2015.

The Junior ladies qualified for the County semi-final on Saturday October 18.  At the time of writing, the opponents, venue and time are not confirmed.
