Na Piarsaigh 2-10, Patrickswell 0-10
The saying goals wins matches was never so true in an exciting high standard Co. U14 Div 1 final at the Gaelic Grounds last Friday. Na Piarsaigh who started without the injured Liam Barry, Emmet McEvoy and Eoghan Sherlock got the goals in either half from superb full forward, David O'Byrne. The game was proceeded by the new Bord na n-Óg "Give Respect, Get Respective" exchange between the teams and officials.
Na Piarsaigh started brightly with a huge Sean Long point from distance but the 'Well responded with a free from Calvin Carroll and Jason Gillane point. It would prove to be the only time the 'Well got in front as Adam McNamara levelled the proceedings with a point before David O'Byrne rocked the 'Well with a goal followed by two points. Calvin Carroll had another free to narrow the gap before James Daly added two for Na Piarsaigh from placed balls to leave Na Piarsaigh in the ascendency at half time leading 1-6 to 0-3.
Another Adam McNamara widened the gap to 7 points before the 'Well completely took over for the next 15mins and from the resulting dominance Calvin Carroll scored 5 points 3 frees and 2 '65's to narrow the gap to just 2 points with 10 mins remaining. Na Piarsaigh switched Adam McNamara to centre field and David Ryan to centre forward to try and get a grip on proceedings and the move worked with David Ryan picking out big full-forward David O'Byrne who had ghosted in behind the 'Well defence to smash home his second goal and victory for Na Piarsaigh.
