Intermediate Hurling
West Intermediate
Championship Final
Intermediate hurlers well off the pace at Feenagh
Newcastle West ........1-13
Feohanagh
Castlemahon ............2-15

Feenagh was the venue on Saturday last, conditions were excellent and Billy Phillips referred. The game was one sided for much of the 60 minutes, with Feohanagh Castlemahon doing the better hurling and generally fitter, sharper combining better, the better team. We strugged, the long lay-off from serious training taking its toll. You can't really expect to hurl well when there isn't much training going on. Feohanagh Castle-mahon were on top from the throw-in and were 0-6 to 2-10 ahead at half time. It was a fully deserved lead, with county minor Seamus Flanagan, pacey, physically strong, an excellent striker off both sides, the main man in the scoring department. One of the goals was somewhat controversial, the con-tention on the sideline being that having caught the ball in the goalmouth the Newcastlewest player was  fouled. However umpires ruled otherwise and the green flag was raised. We failed to score from play. Our 0-6 came from fees with Mike McMahon impressive. It didn't help that we lost Mike Martin to a straight red, his pull judged to be deserving of red and yellow. Michael's industry, pace, ability, around the midfield was a loss.
In the second half we outscored the 2013 West Junior Championship winners and Co. Championship runners-up 1-7 to 0-8. Niall Enright, excellent at wing back, was at the centre of what we did well in this half, and we played better than the first though we were down to 14, and then to 13 when Stephen Nix was sidelined for 2 yellows! However, though playing better, we scored a mere 1-1 from play with the goal at 61 arriving with time almost up, though it was well taken with Mark Lenihan getting the touch on a ball sent in from outfield. Mike McMahon was responsible for the remaining 0-6, his free taking excellent. As we said, the better team won and we struggled generally. It might be the wake up call we need as we look forward to the County Championship Round 5 v Glenroe (fixed for Friday at 8pm at Kilbreedy, but likely to be postponed due to Ballylanders involve-ment in the County Senior Football on Sunday September 12th at the Field), and to the County quarter final.
Team: Seán Neville, Tommy Kelleher, Seán Browne, William Hurley, Niall Enright, Paul Hannon 0-1, Stephen Nix, Eoin Hurley, Michael Martin, Thomas Quilligan, Mike McMahon 0-12, Shane Kelly, Jamie Lee, Michael Dowling, Mark Lenihan. Subs: Aaron McCarthy, Maurice Murphy, Evan Egan, Conor O'Sullivan, Conor Relihan, Darragh McMahon. Training continues.

This is in the door. At full strength and in training we should be competitive. Senior panellists Healy, Gavin Riedy, Cian Sheehan, Eoin Hurley, Eoin Murphy, Darragh Quilligan, Andy Brouder are the players expected to lead the way. Fr. Casey's, St. Kieran's, Seán Finn's are the teams to beat.

MINOR HURLING WEST A
CHAMPIONSHIP .SEMI FINAL
Newcastle West.........4-12
Tournafulla ..............1-11
Coolyroe was the venue on Sunday. The mist made its appearance in the second half and it was getting dusky when the game finished. Donnacha O'Callaghan refereed. The first half was even enough and we led at half time 1-7 to 0-8, having played into the roadside goal. A goal from the restart extended our lead but Tour kept in touch with 3 points from frees by county minor panellist Conor Moroney. However, when the accurate Conor was sent to the line, on a straight red 16 minutes into the half Tour's challenge nosedived, though their heads did not drop. From 46 we scored freely, and at the end were deserving winners, qualifying for the final against Deel Rangers, impressive in the other semi. Seamus Flanagan and co will put it up to us, with county minor Seamus their main man. If we can restrict him, we're in with a very good chance of claiming the title.
Team: Conor O'Sullivan, Cillian McMahon, Conor Barry, Darragh McMahon, Seamus Hurley, William Hurley, Darren O'Doherty, Brian Hurley, Shane Stack, Shane Lee, Caleb O'Shea, Declan O'Connor, Jack Fanning, Adam Harrington, A.J. O'Connor, Jack Downey, Lee Woulfe.
There is no info to hand regarding arrangements for the final. Training continues.

UNDER 15
FOOTBALL
DIVISION 1
COUNTY
CHAMPIONSHIP
FINAL
Newcastle West ..........0-9
Monaleen ....................2-5
Claughaun was the venue on Sunday last at 3.30pm and this Premier Division Final had the best of football with the destination of title and trophy not decided until the end of the second period of extra time. We had the worst of starts, failing to find the target from good opportunities, 0-0 to 1-3 behind with 14 of the 25 minutes gone. Eventually we found our range and were within 0-3 of the leaders at half time, 0-3 to 1-3. The second half was low scoring, no score to Monaleen, 0-3 to us. The leveller that sent the game to extra time coming a minute into time added on. In the first period of et we went 0-8 to 1-3 ahead, constructed the fantastic move that should have yielded a goal but didn't and immediately conceded the penalty that was scored to give the lead back to the city team. The second 10 minutes of et had brilliant do or die football but we couldn't close the 0-2 gap, hard though we tried, and so to Monaleen, our great rivals at underage for many years, the cup and the title. A super game of football, an excellent display by our lads. Well done to all. As mentor Seán McAuliffe said, it's time to regroup and go again at U16 in 2015.
Team: Ronan St. John, Dylan O'Connell, Cormac Nash, Lee Woulfe (capt), Brian Curtin 0-0, Jack Downey, Oisin Brennan, Niall McAuliffe, Darragh Enright, Richard Stack, Dylan Whelan 0-5, Michael Begley 0-1, Mikey Carroll, Ben Finnegan 0-1, Jack Nash. Subs: Damian Keenan, Miceal Collins, Thomas Griffin, Caolan Dooley 0-1, Darragh Collins, Ross Donovan, Brian Nix, Brian Foley. John Hurley, Pa Keane and Seán McAuliffe mentored and did a great job. If the team stays together and develops they'll be well in contention at U16 in 2015.

U10 Hurlers Save The
Best Till Last
We went to our final tournament of the year in Banteer last Saturday and, having captured silverware in Holycross the previous week, we were looking forward to seeing how our boys would perform.
There were 6 teams in our competition with 2 groups of 3. The winner of each group will play in the final. We were in a group of Donoughmore and Ballin-hassig from Cork.

Game 1
NCW v Donoughmore
Thanks largely to the experience the boys had in Holycross the previous week, we were very sharp from the start. At times our first touch was excellent and although we never got up to the full pace we d like, we ended up winning well in the end.

Game 2
NCW v Ballinhassig
This was a very exciting game as the winner was guaranteed a place in the final. The first half was very competitive and we were up 2 points at half time. However, an excel-lent second half meant we won well in the end. This set up a mouth-watering final with Eire Og.

Game 3
Final: NCW v Eire Og Cork
This was without doubt the most exciting game of hurling we witnessed all year with this great bunch of boys. Eire Og scored a goal early on to take the lead. However our young boys never panicked and scored a great goal and point to lead. Then we were sucker punched with another Eire Og goal and our backs were to the wall. However, the never say die attitude that these lads possess got them another goal and we went in up a point at half time.
The second half started at an amazing pace for this age group as the sliothar flew up and down the field with both teams looking for the killer score. A massive push by our boys yielded another goal and point so we led by 5. Then a great goal by Eire og had the margin back to 2 and the excitement was unbearable. We scored another great point to lead by 3. Deep in the last minute, Eire Og broke through and looked certain to score, only for heroic defending where 2 of our boys ended up over the end line making a brave block.
The final whistle sounded and we had our second piece of silverware in a week. Moreover, we had the privilege of sharing such a great day with our family and friends. This bunch of lads has been a joy to watch over the past few weeks.
The management would particularly like to thank the parents of the boys who have sacrificed their time to attend blitzes far from home. If they didn't commit, we'd have no team and wouldn't have experienced the great days we have had over the past few weeks. The season is over but the planning and dreaming for next season begins again! Next Saturday, it is the turn of the U9s to shine. There will be a blitz in NCW main field for the boys born in 2005 and 2006 at 10am. Details to follow.
