City G.A.A.

The Final of the Patsy Nicholas Bar Mulgrave Street sponsored Junior A Hurling Championship took place last Saturday afternoon in the Gaelic Grounds. The City side started the best and had four unanswered points before Andrew Carroll struck a goal for the Patrickswell side. Na Piarsiagh had Peter Casey reply immediately with a well taken point and indeed they stroked a further three points before Patrickswell got going with any kind of purpose. The interval saw Na Piarsiagh lead by 0-12 to 1-5 and the poor star by Patrickswell was to be a deciding factor at the end of this game.
The second half saw points being traded by both sides but it was Na Piarsiagh that held out for a two point victory at the end of what was an entertaining Final. Andrew Carroll was Patrickswell's leading scorer with a fine tally of 1-9 and his best score was a beautiful side-line cut that sailed over the cross-bar. Na Piarsiagh had eight different players on the score board and this was in some way a reflection of their overall play throughout the game. Na Piarsiagh now entertain Staker Wallace in the County Quarter Final whilst Patrickswell face Castletown Ballyagran in a second Quarter Final.

On Sunday afternoon the final of the Horse & Hound Bar Mulgrave St Junior B Football Championship Final took place in Mungret. St Patricks fresh from their Senior Football victory on the previous Friday evening were eager from the start and went into a strong lead of1-5 to 1-0 within ten minutes of the start. Kildimo/Pallaskenry were rattled and found it hard to cope with the movement of the St Patricks play. Peter Nash took control and slotted two clinical goals that turned this game upside down within the space of a few minutes. Kildimo/Pallaskenry rattled off points at ease and when Nash once again goaled before the interval the writing was on the wall for the City side. The half time score was Kildimo/Pallaskenry 4-6 St Patricks 1-6. The second half more of the same from Kildimo/Pallaskenry and when Tom O'Shea scored his second goal all seemed lost for St Patricks. The city boys were not giving up and brought this contest to life with a flurry of goals from Robbie Kelleher (2) and Padraig Reale to leave just four points between the sides. Tony McCarthy at centre back for Kildimo/Pallaskenry scored a fine point and that one man scoring machine Pater Nash finished of his match winning display with a further goal and a point. The final score was Kildimo/Pallaskenry 6-11 St Patricks 4-8. Any Final that produces a combined score of 10-19 has to be seen as value for money for those loyal fans from both sides. Peter Nash had a final tally of 4-4 whilst Bobby McNamara with 1-3 and Robbie Kelleher with 2-0 were the leading scorers for St Patricks.
