City Board Treasurer Mr Sean Burke presents the cup to Patrickswell captain Mr Lar Considine.

The final of the Mike O'Connell's Menswear Catherine Street Junior A Football Championship took place in Clarina Last Thursday evening. Patrickswell were hoping to retain the trophy won last season and in the opening half were well ahead of their opponents from general play but lacked the ability to convert scoring chances to scores. However they still managed to lead at the break by 1-4 to 0-4. The second saw better score taking from the Patrickswell boys and they stretched their lead by a further five points without reply. Na Piarsiagh produced some fine football and contested everything as if their lives depended on it they managed a goal and three points to bring the contest to life once again. Patrickswell scored a fine goal that in effect killed off the game as a contest but as Na Piarsiagh camped on the Patrickswell goal they were unable to get the score that was need to bring parity to a very enjoyable game of football. The Cup was presented by City Board Treasurer to the winning captain Lar Considine of Patrickswell.

The first of the Patsy Nicholas Bar Gerald Griffin Street Junior A Hurling Championship Semi Final's saw Patrickswell play Crecora in Clarina last Sunday morning. Crecora started strongest and managed a two point interval lead however Patrickswell's hurling prowess came through and they eventually ran out winners on a final score of Patrickswell 3-10 Crecora 1-13. The second Semi Final saw Ballybrown take on Na Piarsiagh. Ballybrown got off to a good start and were 1-2 to 0-3 ahead after a fine individual goal from Killian Gavin. Na Piarsiagh had County minor Peter Casey causing all sorts of problems for Ballybrown and he chipped in with three unanswered points. The city side were leading by two points approaching the break and Ballybrown player Killian Cliffe raced through to kick a goal to have Ballybrown take a single point lead at the interval.

Na Piarsiagh had a sense of urgency about them after the break and had 1-7 from six different players with Ballybrown's reply being two pointed frees. Midway through the half Ballybrown had a player dismissed from the field of play and this certainly didn't help their cause. Ballybrown had a goal at the end of the game from Peter O'Rourke but this was in vain and to compound matters a second Ballybrown player was dismissed as full time approached. The final score shows Na Piarsiagh winning by 1-17 to 3-7, but how Ballybrown will rue some goal chances in the opening half that were to prove costly at the end of this game. The Final of this competition is fixed for Saturday September 27th at 2:30 pm in the Gaelic Grounds.
