John Kiely and Leo O'Connor won't be ratified as Limerick's new U21 and minor hurling managers tonight if county board vice-chairman Pat Heffernan has his way.

The Blackrock man is urging club delegates to vote against the proposed new managements after the executive decided to dispense with the services of Ciaran Carey and Brian Ryan on Monday night. Heffernan missed that meeting due to ill-health, but has made no secret of his disgust at the decision to replace the outgoing U21 and minor managers.

"It beggars belief and it's very disappointing for Limerick hurling. I really do hope the clubs go against the officers on this and stand up and be counted," he told the Limerick Leader website.

"I can tell you that Ciaran Carey had one of the best management set-ups that I have ever seen and I was present at a lot of their training sessions. Brian Ryan won two Munster (minor) titles and while I didn't agree with all his decisions I thought he would stay involved."
