West Junior 'B' Football Championship Semi Final: St. Kieran's 2.8 Knockaderry 0.13
The junior footballers advanced to the West championship on Friday evening last with a spirited display to see off the challenge of a well-fancied Glin side who were favourites for the championship. Going into the game with limited resources due to a number of our players making the transition up to the senior panel as well as injury the hope was we could put in a strong performance which would hopefully see us over the line. We began the game brightly putting the Glin defence under some early pressure which was duly rewarded thanks to scores from Chris Madigan and Seamus Mangan. In truth the game could have been a lot different were it not for the exploits of goalkeeper Tommy Quinn who rolled back the years and pulled off a number of outstanding saves over the course of the hour. At the back the defence was ably led by team captain Conor O' Mahony at full back. we controlled affairs around the middle third with Aengus Gannon and Patrick Windle performing well and providing the attack a plentiful supply of ball. As the second half progressed Glin upped the ante as they sought to get themselves back into the encounter. Once again Tommy Quinn was to the rescue with an excellent save midway through the half. Glin's dominance began to show as they soon took a three point lead within the last ten minutes and it looked as if the game was gone from us. After some excellent build-up play from the back Mike Steele found Aengus Gannon, now operating at centre forward after a strong shift in midfield and Gannon broke through the Glin defence from the sideline with his low effort leaving the goalkeeper with no chance and the game was all square. As both sides went for the final score we managed to manufacture a late free thanks to Paddy Harnett who won a vital ball late on to give us a chance to secure a winner in the dying moments of what was a thrilling game. With the game hanging in the balance and it looking as if extra time was on the cards Sean O' Connor's late score gave us victory by a point and a place in the west final. After falling at this hurdle for the past two years against two sides that went on to eventually win the county championship it is great to get over the line and secure a place in the west final where Ballysteen will provide us with the opposition in what promises to be an enthralling encounter. Both sides have met on two occasions this year, in our opening game of the year in the west league we came away with a hard earned six point victory before a comprehensive victory in the opening round of the west championship. Both games will count for very little in the west final as both sides have changed dramatically in the meantime. Well done to the players and management for their effort on Friday evening.

Panel vs Ballysteen: Tommy Quinn, James Morrisroe, Conor O' Mahony, Mike Steele, Ian Mackessy, James O' Connor, Paul O' Connor, Patrick Windle, Aengus Gannon, Patrick Liston, Nicky Kelly, Seamus Mangan, Anthony Liston, Chris Madigan, Mike Enright, Padraig Trant, Owen Hayes, Sean O' Connor, Paddy Harnett, Ger Donovan, Tony Doyle

County Senior Football Championship:
The senior footballers secured their place in the county quarter finals on Saturday evening last after putting in a strong performance to secure a dramatic late draw against one of the favourites for the county championship Fr. Casey's. Going into the game off the back of three victories in the opening three rounds and defeat in the final round there were a lot of permutations with three teams vying for the two quarter final berths. With Newcastlewest and Ballysteen also drawing it meant that both Newcastlewest and ourselves will advance to the quarter finals while Fr. Casey's take their place at the top of the group and go straight in to the semi final. In the quarter final we face a tough assignment against Rhebogue side St. Patricks, a side that we have been winning a lot of plaudits for their performances over the past two years and a side that we have had mixed fortunes with since they joined the senior ranks in recent times. When the two sides met in the opening round of the 2013 campaign we came away with victory by the tightest of margins en route to the county semi final. The game is provisionally fixed for the weekend of September 19th with no exact date or venue fixed at this time. Further details in the coming week.

U12 hurling Finals Day UL
Last Friday evening we travelled to the North Campus of UL to play in our finals competition. After a great year of matches and even a trip to Semple stadium earlier in the year we couldn't wait to try out our luck in Limerick. As usual we had a strong panel, 22 players. Our opponents on the night were Garryspillane and Ballybrown, which was great as we had not met either of these so far this year. First up was Garryspillane and we started very well, taking some good scores to push ahead. From goalkeepers, through backs, to midfields and forwards; every 11 we had on the field played great through the 30 minutes. It ended a close call with us defending some strong attacks for the last five minutes to come out winning by one point. Next up Ballybrown and another 30 minutes of tough hurling. We did well in this match, ending up winning our second match of the night. A special mention for the Ballybrown goalie Josh who gave a master-class in goals for Ballybrown. Our players on the night were Aston Magner, Shay Greaney, Jamie o Brien, Sean Ryan, Thomas Murphy, Conor Power, Dan Geraghty, Kevin Hough, Declan Kennedy, Cormac Mann, Aaron Heffernan, Ian O Connor, William Clifford, William Steele, Conor Woulfe, Shane Fitzgerald, Cillian McDonagh, Tom McMahon, Stephen Mullins, Cathal McEnery, Thomas Mann and Patrick Ambrose. Well done boys and nice to see that the hard training sessions paying dividends. Great results but more importantly good heart and some good skills shown by our boys.
