Senior County Championship
Fr. Caseys 0-14 St. Kierans 1-11
Fr. Casey's played the last group game of the county senior football championship on Saturday evening against St. Kieren's in Newcastlewest. It was St. Kieren's who got off to the stronger start as they scored three points without reply inside the opening ten minutes. Fr. Casey's then came to life as Maurice Gleeson grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and scored two fantastic points in a row. Robert Browne then followed suit and put the ball over the bar to bring the sides level. The Abbeyfeale men then took the lead for the first time in the game at the midpoint of the half with Billy Quirke getting on the end of a great move and kicking the ball with accuracy for another point. By now, Fr. Casey's had grown in confidence and were beginning to show glimpses of fantastic football. Paudie Browne burst forward for a great score to extend the lead to two points. Centre forward Paraic McEnery, who was playing alongside his brother Eoin, then scored three points in a row to give Fr. Casey's a strong position with just five minutes to go in the half. St. Kieren's weren't content going into the break five points down however and scored two quick fire points to leave it Fr. Casey's 0-08 St. Kieren's 0-05 at half time.
The start to the second half was dominated by Fr. Casey's as they again went on a scoring spree. Billy Quirke and Daniel Daly both converted great opportunities to points and Robert Browne used his pace on two occasions to add two more points to the one he registered in the first half. County player John Riordan then scored a fine individual point to leave Fr. Casey's in a commanding position with fifteen minutes remaining. However, at this point St. Kieren's raised the intensity and scored three points before Paraic McEnery again raised a white flag. The response from St. Kieren's was relentless and they scored another two points before finding a way through the Fr. Casey's defence to score a goal. They were now only a point behind with two minutes remaining and that point arrived with a minute to spare. There was to be some final drama however as a free conceded by Fr. Casey's gifted St. Kieren's the opportunity to win the game with the final kick of the ball. It was missed however and both sides shared the points in this enthralling encounter which ended on a final scoreline of Fr. Casey's 0-14 St. Kieren's 1-11. Fr. Casey's have now qualified for the county semi-final and will play the winners of St. Patrick's and St. Kieren's who meet in the quarter final.

Junior A West Championship
Fr. Caseys 1-10 Monagea 2-05
Fr. Casey's have reached the final of the Junior A West Championship after defeating Monagea in this fascinating game played in Tournafulla on Friday evening. Jamie O'Connor opened the scoring for Fr. Casey's but Monagea soon responded with a point of their own. Chris Smith and Jamie O'Connor with his second gave Fr. Casey's a two point cushion but once again Monagea put the ball over the bar to leave just one between the sides. A double from Jamie O'Connor who was having a great game put Fr. Casey's in a strong position midway through the second half but a goalkeeping error allowed Monagea back into the game through a gifted goal. This seemed to inspire Monagea who followed this up with a double of their own. Experienced player John Lenihan put a stop to the onslaught to register two Fr. Casey's points before half time to leave the sides level at the break. Monagea started the second half with purpose and attacked with menace before a fine move was finished off to give them a second goal and the leave Fr. Casey's with the difficult task of coming back. However, the spirit Maurice Flynn, J.D. Foley and Liam McNally have instilled in this team again came to the fore. Sean O'Donnell first scored a great point before John Lane powerfully finished, raising a green flag. Fr. Casey's were now in the ascendancy and Sean O'Donnell popped up twice in a row to score two magnificent points. Monagea could only manage a solitary point before the final whistle. For Fr. Casey's it was a final whistle that seemed like it would never arrive as Monagea had pummeled the goal mouth in search of an equalizing goal. Goalkeeper Sean Scannell redeemed himself for his earlier mistake by saving a penalty and the Monagea men could find no way past him when the rebound landed at their feet. Fr. Casey's won on a final scoreline of 1-10 to 2-05 but unfortunately the win came at a price as star forward and top points scorer John Lenihan ran into the post unaware of his positioning and dislocated his shoulder. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery so that he can wear the blue and white again before the end of the season. Fr. Casey's will now be playing Glin in the West Final in what is an eagerly awaited contest.
