Ryan rues missed goal chances

September 08, 2014

Limerick minor manager Brian Ryan felt Limerick's inability to take any of the five goal chances they created against Kilkenny cost them a first Irish Press Cup win in 30 years.

Substitute Conor Fitzgerald, Peter Casey (twice), Ronan Lynch and Barry Nash all had failed to convert goal chances as the fancied Treaty men succumbed to a 0-19 to 2-17 defeat.

"You need those breaks and we just didn't get them today," Ryan ruefully reflected.

"Kilkenny were a big team and they played well. We needed to be a bit crisper on the ball closer to goal. Our striking was a little bit slow and Kilkenny were great at the hooking, blocking and winning the dirty ball.

"I think that is a particularly good Kilkenny team that are backboned by two All-Ireland colleges finalists. I wouldn't underestimate their victory today.

"I would hope to see these young lads back playing for Limerick in the future and that is part of our job. We want to get these boys representing their county for many years to come."
