Patrickswell Festival Weekend

The Patrickswell Festival took place from Friday to Sunday.  It was a resounding success in dry weather.  On Friday evening, Bruff stepped in to replace Ballybrown for the Michael O'Brien Hurling Tournament.  It was a high-scoring game that entertained the spectators in attendance.

Our visitors raced into a four-point lead, before they were halted by five consecutive Patrickswell points.  While Bruff managed to level the scores at 0-5 apiece, the 'Well pressed forward and scored another one goal (Sean O'Brien) and nine points before the interval.  The half-time score was a healthy lead of 1-14 to 0-6 for the home team.

The second half began with a Bruff goal and a further exchange of three points each.  At 1-17 to 1-9, Kevin O'Brien struck a beautiful goal to clinch the match.  To their great credit, Bruff enjoyed a purple patch of seven unanswered points.  The match ended with Patrickswell the winners by 2-20 to 1-16.  Brian Murray accepted the trophy from Micheal O'Brien and thanked Bruff for their generosity.  Later that evening, there was a mouse race in the comfortable surroundings of the Dark Horse.

On Saturday, McSweeney's Field was a hive of activity for the Family Fun Day.  There was a Donkey National, Wheel of Fortune, Bouncy Castle, Dog Show and numerous activities for young and old.  Collins' Bar triumphed in the Tug o'War and the Cu Chulainn's donkey was the National Winner.  The evening's entertainment in the Cu Chulainn included a barbecue, a Strong Man/Woman competition and an awards ceremony.

Sunday morning began with a 5km Road Race/Walk.  The senior hurlers were first out of the blocks, with Lar Considine setting the pace and winning in 21 minutes.  There was a more leisurely pace at the rear of the pack, with families enjoying the fine weather.  The culmination of the Festival Weekend was the Pool Competition.  The Cu Chulainn Team beat the Collins' Bar Team with an away victory.

The Club would like to thank everyone who made the weekend an enjoyable success.  Let's hope that the event grows in the future.
