St Mary's/Sean Finns GAA Club notes

August 19, 2014
Senior Football Championship
All roads lead to Feenagh this Saturday evening (August 23rd) for Round 4 of the Senior Football Championship. Sean Finn's will line out against Drom/Broadford in the eagerly anticipated clash. A win is a must as we find ourselves with a mountain to climb as we will probably need maximum points from our remaining two fixtures to secure a qualifying spot. Throw in at Feenagh is at 6.30pm. All support is welcome as always, best of luck to the boys and the management team.

West Junior Hurling semi-finals fixed
Following a draw last Monday week, Tournafulla will play Monagea and St Marys will play Feohanagh in the west Junior Hurling championship semi-finals. Tour and Monagea will play in Newcastlewest on Tuesday 19th August at 6.45pm, while on Wednesday 20th August, we will play Feohanagh in Feenagh also at 6.45pm. Two great games in store, with a place in the West final and a county quarter final spot awaiting both winners.

Senior Football League
Sean Finns Senior Footballers concluded the group stages of the Senior Football league when they were beaten by Ballysteen on a scoreline of 0-14 to 0-11 in Ballysteen. The defeat is our first in the league and fortunately doesn't affect our table topping position having secured 6 wins from our 7 games. Interestingly, St Patricks have topped group-1 will be our opposition in the final. We now await the fixture of the county final of the league. However as we also qualified for the 2013 senior league final and are still awaiting this fixture, maybe we should not be holding our breaths.

Remaining games are as follows:
13th April , Home v Feenagh/Kilmeedy (to be re-arranged)
Friday 8th August, Bye
Friday 29th August, Away v Askeaton at 7pm
Semi Final August 30th
Final September 06th

Bord na nOg Fixtures
U14 Football Shield Final v Askeaton in Mick Neville Park Saturday 23rd August at 1.30pm.
U16 Football Quarter Final v Drom Broadford in The Bog Garden Monday 25th August at 7.00pm.

Limerick Minor Hurlers
Congratulations to the Limerick Minor Hurlers who defeated Galway on a comprehensive scoreline of 1-27 to 2-09 to secure their place in All Ireland Final on September 7th. This turned out to be a one sided encounter with a spirited performance from the boys in green to overcome the disappointment of losing out in 2013 with what will be remembered as the Hawk Eye encounter. Kilkenny will no doubt prove to be tough opposition in the September showdown, best of luck to all involved in their preparations. Luimneach Abu.

Club Fund-raiser - "Match the Time of First Goal and win €500"
The holder of the winning ticket has still not come forward to claim the prize. The goal was scored at 53 minutes and 44 seconds. The holder of this ticket can claim the jackpot, €500, by contacting the numbers at the back of the ticket within 30 days of the game. We await the call, but time is quickly running out. The prize has to be claimed within 30 days of the match which was played on 13th July. If it's not claimed in the next few days, the money will go back into clubs funds for the development of the Bog Garden.

Scrap Metal
There's an old saying that says "It's an ill wind that blows no good". Maybe the storms of the spring have increased the possibility of scrap metal in the area. We would like take this opportunity to remind our friends and supporters that the club has an on-going scrap metal collection operation in place. Contact James O'Connor or any committee member if you have anything to donate. Collection can be arranged if necessary.
