Intermediate West Final
Fr. Caseys 0-09 St. Senans 5-09
Fr. Casey's were looking to win the West Intermediate Championship for the first time on Friday evening against stern opposition in the form of St. Senan's who are only in their second year outside of the senior grade in Limerick football. Although Fr. Casey's took an early lead with some great scoring from David Collins and Sean O'Donnell, the men from the estuary soon found their stride and took control of the game. They went on to score three goals in the first half with one coming from a penalty after an outrageous save from Sean Scannell of Purt. With a scoreline of 3-01 to 0-04 at half time, Fr. Casey's were very much in contention but a goal just after the restart put St. Senan's in control. A fifth goal was scored with 10 minutes to go and it ended the game as a contest but Fr. Casey's still tried hard and knocked over the final three scores. It just wasn't to be for our young team but they showed great courage to keep battling right until the final whistle. There were some positives to report from the game as Jim Joy Jnr. made a comeback in the blue and white colours and finished the game as Fr. Casey's top scorer. He is definitely making inroads for a senior spot and will also be pleased with his performance on Monday night. Caher man Sean O'Donnell also made some good use of the ball and showed some great accuracy with the left boot. Teacher John Browne left his man with some homework to do after a fine display at midfield while Cormac Roche, younger brother of Micheal, is also one for the future and again showed signs of his excellent skills. Maurice Flynn knows he will have to refocus the team and get the players to adapt quickly to his new style of play over the coming crucial weeks of football.
