Senior County Championship
Fr. Caseys 2-11 Ballysteen 0-09

Last Friday night in Mick Neville Park, Fr. Caseys faced Ballysteen in round 3 of the county championship. Having lost twice to the same opposition last year we knew that we had a tough encounter on our hands but buoyed by victories over Newcastle West and Adare already in the championship we were confident we could keep our winning streak going and book a place in the county quarter finals.

Fr. Caseys started very brightly and controlled the majority of the possession in the opening 10 minutes. Three unanswered points gave the fealesiders the perfect start but all that hard work seemed in vain when Ballysteen leveled proceedings with three consecutive points in as many minutes. Both sides continued to trade scores for the remainder of the half and when the half time whistle went the teams were level on 0-07 each. Ballysteen could have stolen a late goal only for a great block by full back Kevin O'Connor. The first half scorers were Padraig McEnery with two frees, James Riordan, Tommy Smith, Mike Galvin, David Ward and Billy Quirke.

Aided by the breeze the advantage seemed with Ballysteen but instead Fr. Caseys hit the ground running in the second half. Suddenly our forwards were starting to find the target while our defence was now much more secure. A goal on his Senior debut from Tommy Smith gave Fr. Caseys some daylight and from that point onwards the men from Abbeyfeale never looked back. The team grew in confident as the half progressed and we witnessed some of the best play from them so far this year. Ballysteen battled gamely but a late goal from John Riordan after a magnificent solo run from Thomas Collins put the icing on the cake. It was a second half where everything clicked for Fr. Caseys but the winning margin was harsh on a gallant Ballysteen team. With two games remaining against Galbally and St. Kierans we now look to have secured a place in the Quarter-Finals and now the goal changes to trying to secure top spot in the group and an automatic Semi-Final place. We wish everyone the best of luck.
