St Mary's/Sean Finns GAA Club notes

Junior Hurlers Prepare for Quarter Final
Drom/Broadford's defeat of Templeglantine two weeks ago completed the group stages of this championship and clarified the knock-out stages. Feoghanagh top Group-2 and Tournafulla Top Group-2, so both of these are straight into the semi-finals. The quarter finals will feature St Marys (2nd in Group-2) against Drom/Broadford (3rd in Group-2), and Croagh/Kilfinny (2nd in group-2) will play Monagea (2rd in group-1). These matches are fixed for the weekend after next. Croagh/Kilfinny v Monagea on Friday 1st August and St Marys v Drom/Broadford on Saturday 2nd August at 7pm in Newcastlewest.
Our Hurlers continue their preparations for this game.

Senior Football Championship
We have received notification of the 3rd round fixture against St Patricks. It will take place in Bruff on Saturday 9th August at 7pm. After winning our opening round game v Pallasgreen and losing the 2nd round to Ballylanders this game is vital if we are to progress to the knockout stages. St Patricks are in a similar position with a win against Pallasgreen and a defeat v Drom/Broadford in their opening 2 games. Both sides will be hoping to secure the two points on offer in Bruff on 9th August.
Senior Football League
Sean Finns Senior Footballers were due to play Hospital/Herbertstown in the League on Tuesday 22nd July but were disappointed to receive a walk-over. This result means we have maximum points from 6 games and have topped the group with a game still to play against Ballysteen.

Junior-B Football.
Unfortunately we needed to give Glin a walkover in the remaining fixture due to many players not being available on the night. A disappointing championship in the end after a promising league campaign however we can still take many positives after giving many youngsters their debuts at junior level which will no doubt stand to us next year.

West Minor Football Championships
Our minor footballers have maximum points after the opening 4 rounds with wins recorded against St Kierans, Adare and Granagh/Ballingarry/Banogue. The latest victory came against Daithi Broudairs on Friday evening on a scoreline of 1-20 to 1-05. This was a very impressive victory from the boys in blue so keep up the good work.

Remaining games
Fri 5-August Home V Deel Rangers at 7.30pm.
Fri 15-Aug, Away v Mountcollins/Athea at 7.30pm.

Minor Hurling
St Marys played Kileedy last Friday night in the Bog Garden. Unfortunately we were beaten 2-21 to 2-16 after a good game with some excellent scores from both sides. Kileedys better finishing being the difference between the sides. This latest result means we are a bit off the pace with 4 points from four games. We received a walk-over from St Patricks and beat Bruree but have lost to both Knockainey and Kileedy. We will need better results against Askeaton and Feenagh/Kilmeedy if we are to retain any hope of making the top-2 places and secure a semi-final spot. We have plenty of games in the pipeline and the management and players, under the guidance of Jerry Molyneaux are all set for action.

U-10 Hurling Blitz
An under 10 hurling blitz was held in Mick Neville Park last Saturday, July the 26th. It was a well organised event with many teams from around the county in attendance. We played three short games, all against teams we had not met before- Feenagh/Kilmeedy, Newcastle West and Askeaton. We had fifteen players available on the day, which was a very good turnout for this time of year. All players got plenty of game time and had a chance to show off their skills. Cian O'Sullivan played two games in goals and was replaced by Neil Teskey for the final game. Our defenders Cian Glynn, Dylan Farrell, Luke Johnson, Vincent Supple and Mike Mulcair all played well against strong opposition. Ryan Stapleton and Niall Sheahan covered a lot of ground in midfield, and Tadgh Meskell, Emlyn Lawlor, David Clancy, Johnny Fitzgerald, Scot Stapleton and Lee Wilmott played in the forwards. We let in some goals and we scored some, all games were very close, we had no serious injuries, the sun shone and everybody had fun. That's what it's all about! And after all the games were over we took a team photograph with James Ryan. The boys wished him well and he went on to play a magnificent game against Wexford in the All-Ireland semi-final the following day. A player for everybody to look up to!

All Ireland Semi Final - August 10th.
Limerick recorded an impressive victory over Wexford last Sunday in Thurles on a scoreline of 4-26 to 1-11 in the first of the quarter finals. This game was over as a contest at half time with Limerick hitting the net with goals from David Breen and Shane Dowling (2). A further goal on the resumption from Paul Brown killed any hopes of a Wexford comeback. The Treaty men are now rewarded with a semifinal appearance to Kilkenny in Croke Park on August 10th. A tough task indeed however it's not beyond Limerick who will be eager to put the semifinal appearance against Clare in 2013 behind them.

Scrap Metal
There's an old saying that says "It's an ill wind that blows no good". Maybe the storms of the spring have increased the possibility of scrap metal in the area. We would like take this opportunity to remind our friends and supporters that the club has an on-going scrap metal collection operation in place. Contact James O'Connor or any committee member if you have anything to donate. Collection can be arranged if necessary.
