Underage:
On Wednesday 23rd our U14 hurlers had a crucial game at home against Dromcollegher Broadford. On the night the Saints were missing a few players because of the summer holidays and had just the bare 15 for this important game. It was the Saints that started the quickest with 2 very well taken goals by Diarmuid Hegarty to put us in to a 2 goal lead. From then on in the first half it was Dromcollogher that had control of the game. With the Saints bacs under pressure and our forwards unable to add to the score line we entered the half time break leading by the narrowest of margins (2-1 to 5 points). In the second half the Saints mid field pairing of Adam Mc Namara and Eoin O Regan took control and started to drive the Saints forward. As both teams battled for possession there was nothing between them on the field and on the score board. However a scoring spell by half forwards (Travis Quaid 1 goal) and Sean Mortell (2 points) put some daylight between us on
the score board. With a monster point from a free inside his own half from Diarmuid Hegarty the Saints ran out deserved winners on the night by a score line of 3-5 to 9 points. The win should see the Saints into another hurling county semi-final. However there is lots of work for the team to do if they are to retain their county title from last year. The team on the night was Cathal Keogh, Gearoid O Sullivan, Shay Mc Carthy, Sean Doyle, Luke Hayes, Billy Power, Conor O Sullivan, Eoin O Regan, Adam Mc Namara, Diarmuid Hegarty, Travis Quaid, Sean Mortell, Luke Mc Nally, Andrew Mc Mahon and Sean Neville. Many thanks to all players that turned up for this match and to our supporters that came down to cheer on the boys.
On Wednesday 24th our u12 hurlers were back in action against Croom. Again the holidays took their toll with 9 of the squad missing. However it was still a strong Saints team that took to the field. It was the home side that raced into a 2 point lead at the start. After some positional changes the Saints settled down and took command of the first half. With Adam Mc Namara dominating mid field and with Sean Mortell sweeping up at half back the Saints forwards were beginning to find form. With some great scores from Jamie Mc Namara and Leonard Casey Plunkett the Saints were well on top in the game. In the second half Croom came back into the game with some good scores from their mid fielder. Mid way through the second half an incident saw Crooms mid fielder sent off from the game. This totally changed the remainder of the second half with the Saints well in control and the management team making changes. In the end the Saints had a good win. Many thanks to
all players that turned up on the night and to our hosts Croom for a sporting and good game.
