Shane Dowling claims there was no malice in Matthew O'Hanlon's wild pull across the Na Piarsaigh man's hand in the dying moments of the Limerick-Wexford All-Ireland SHC quarter-final.

The Wexford captain was issued with a straight red card to complete a miserable day for Liam Dunne's side.

"I certainly didn't make a meal of it," Limerick sharpshooter Dowling said.

"I wouldn't have liked to see Matthew get sent off. I don't think he's that type of player. There wasn't a dirty blow throughout the game. I probably thought there was no need to send him off. There was a bit of a clip alright. I didn't play to get him sent off.

"He came up after and shook hands and said there was nothing meant in it. I don't know him very well, but I know he's a very good, strong hurler and by no means would I hold that against him anyway."

Dowling, who bagged 2-8 in a man of the match display, was delighted to see Limerick rack up such a big score (4-26).

"We were disappointed that we didn't create more of those (goal) chances in the Munster final. To be a top-four team, you need to be creating chances like that. We were creating chances for ourselves and we showed that," he added.
