O'Brien motivated by Banner blow

The manner of Limerick's defeat to Clare in last year's All-Ireland SHC semi-final still rankles with vice-captain Paudie O'Brien.

And the opportunity to set the record straight is a source of massive motivation to O'Brien and his team-mates as they prepare to take on Wexford in the last eight this weekend.

"We didn't turn up at all," the half-back recalled in an interview with the Irish Independent.

"When I think about last year, I would always think back to the Clare match rather than the Munster final. It was that disappointing.

"I'm not saying it was an opportunity lost or that we had a God given right to win, because we didn't.

"It's just that we didn't turn up at all and that's really disappointing. It's hard to leave Croke Park with regrets like that.

"We have one match to get back there and try to justify ourselves. At the end of the day, we're not a bitter group of lads. We had our chance and didn't take it."
