ACTIVE KINGDOM Ballybrown hosted a summer camp in the club last week and it was a huge success. Over sixty kids attended and they had a ball. Over the five days the kids tried their hands at many different sports and activities from athletics to olympic handball to orienteering and lots more. This will only get bigger each year. Special thanks to Mikey Kiely and all the coaches for an excellent summer camp.
JUNIOR B CITY CHAMPIONSHIP Played in Patrickswell against our next door neighbours this turned into a fantastic game of hurling. Patrickswell hit the ground running and were up 1-04 after just five minutes and it looked like we were in for a hiding. Ballybrown hit a few points and with Christopher Kenny doing a lot of hurling in the corner we came more into the game. A goal from Kevin Kearney following a save from Christopher Gleeson had us back level at half time. We got caught for a second goal at the start of the second half and Patrickwell added on a couple of points to give us an uphill task once again. With Declan Normoyle leading from centre back Ballybrown clawed our way back into the game for a second time and when Niall O Connor scored a goal with ten minutes to go and Gregory Crosse scored a point from a free the match was level for a second time. With Ballybrown pressing for that elusive winning score we left gaps at the back and Patrickswell punished us with two well taken points to win 2-10 to 2-08. After the match Declan Normoyle received the man of the match reward which was kindly donated by Michael Byrnes.
SENIOR CHALLENGE Ballybrown 1-17 Wolftones 0-17 Played in Shannon on Sunday morning this proved to be a good workout for both teams. The half time score was eleven points to ten in favour of Wolftones with points being swapped by two evenly matched teams. The second half saw the same pattern as the first until David Hall scored a goal with minutes left to put a gap between the teams and we held on to that goal difference to the final whistle. Ballybrown had eleven scorers with all but three points coming from play. Scores for Ballybrown Shane Kenny 0-02 Andrew Cliffe 0-02 Mikey Kiely 0-02 David Hall 1-02 David Byrnes 0-02 David Hartnett 0-01 Ross Griffen 0-01 Brian Griffen 0-02 Lee Doolan 0-02 and Des Kenny 0-01.
Best wishes to Cian Hedderman and both Limerick teams this week.
