Na Piarsaigh GAA club notes

Junior Hurlers
Our juniors were in City Championship action on Saturday evening in Rhebogue when we took on Old Christians.

This was a good tough game with plenty of good hurling on view.

Our defence was superbly marshalled by Brian Shannon and David Lynch in particular while Eoin Hogan in midfield work tirelessly.

In attack Pat McCarthy and Evan Egan showed prominently with McCarthy scoring two goals, one in each half.

We led at the break 1-9 to 1-3.

In the second half we left our opponents back into the game and in the end there was only three points between the teams.

Final score: Na Piarsaigh 2-13 Old Christians 2-10

Team: Evan Condon, Brian Shannon, Paul Downes, Kevin McNamara, Tomas Downes, Paul McNamara, David Lynch, EOin Hogan, Brian Hartnett, Kieran Daly, Dean McLoughlin(0-1), Eoin Keogh, Pat McCarthy(2-2), David Sheppard, Evan Egan(0-7,5f). Subs: Gordon Brown(0-1), Ciaran Keogh, Damien Quigley, Mike Brougham(0-2f)

Under 12 Hurlers

Last week we played Garryspillane & Kildimo U/12 teams away and, while we lost both games, our lads played with great energy and courage and should be very proud of their performances.
The Garryspillane game was played on Tuesday night and it would be fair to say that they dominated the match for most periods, having much older & physically stronger players throughout the field. Ryan Naughton , Luke Hegarty & George Cussen were very resolute & brave in defence while Shane Kelly performed very well in goals.

The Kildimo game was a more even encounter and our lads led for most of the first half with Patrick O' Neill and JJ Carey playing very well in attack. Kildimo's greater size and strength began to show as the game progressed and,in the end, ran out worthy winners on a scoreline of 4-4 to 1-1. Tremendous displays from Darragh Colleran , Cathal Hassett , Vincent Harrington & John Fitzgerald were the highlights of a great effort from Na Piarsaigh who kept battling to the end.

2 very brave performances and many lessons learned...so a good week for our lads . Well done all.
