St Mary's/Sean Finns GAA Club notes

Senior Football League - Sean Finns make it 2 wins from 2
Our Senior footballers played Pallasgreen in the postponed round-2 game on Sunday evening in the Bog Garden. This was an interesting game as it was a prelude to the opening round of the championship in a few week's time. Mike Mann of Ballybrown was the referee. Playing with the strong wind in the opening half, Sean Finns built up a good 3-05 to 1-03 lead. The second half saw a bit more pressure from the east side but eventually Sean Finns won 3-09 to 1-08.

Good Start for Junior Hurlers!!
St Marys junior hurlers opened their county league campaign with a good victory in Ballybricken last Tuesday evening (1st April). Denis Richardson was the referee. Despite this being their first competitive game of the season, they opened brightly and won well, showing plenty of flair and promise and also plenty of room for further improvement also. The concession of 4 goals at intervals during the game kept the opposition in the hunt, but in truth, St Marys were the better team throughout. Team & Scorers: Willie Coffey, Gearoid Mulcaire, Patrick Enright, Kieran O'Donovan, Timmy O'Connor, Sean O'Shea(0-2), Darren Jones, Sean Sheahan(0-2). Patrick Wilmott(0-1), Padraic Jones(1-1), Damien Quaid (1-6, 4f, 1-65), Shane Hourigan(0-2), Eoin O'Donnell (0-1), Evan Lenihan, Emmet Walsh. Subs: Eoin Dillon for Willie Coffey (ht), Martin Roche(0-1) (for Emmet Walsh 35 mins.), Adrian Stackpoole (for Evan Lenihan 40 mins.).

On Saturday evening in the Bog Garden, the Junior Hurlers beat Askeaton in a game that was both a West League and a County League encounter. Leading 0-08 to 1-03 at half time, the home side eventually won 0-15 to 2-05.

Limerick GAA Clubs Draw (Formerly Mackey Draw)
Our promoters are currently travelling the high-ways & by-ways of the parish to promote this draw again this year. We have a number of new promoters on board so if you were in previously you may be getting a call from a new promoter this year. The first draw takes place on the last Friday of March with a draw each month right through to December. Cost is the same as previous years - €100 for the full 10 draws. There is a top prize of €13,000 each month with 22 other excellent prizes that must be won each month. Our club, (along with most of the other clubs in Limerick) is the big beneficiary of this draw. It is our main fundraiser for the year and we are very grateful to our members who support us each year. A big thank-you to each of you from all our players and members. We are appealing to you to support us again this year. By supporting it, you are directly supporting our club. Anybody looking to join as a new member can contact any of the following: Anthony Frawley, Brian Duggan, Brian Nolan, Dave Gilbourne, Jonny Mooney, James O'Connor, Joe O'Connor, Liam Chawke, Mike Barrett, Mike Sheahan, Mary Liston, Mike Stackpoole, Pat Sheahan, Shivaun O'Connor, Tom White.
The first draw of 2014 (March Draw) will take place on Saturday 5th April (put back by one week) live on Limericks Live95FM during the sports program between 10.00am and 11.00am. After that, the draws will revert to the last Saturday of each month, right up to December. Best of luck to all our members

Club Membership now overdue
Club membership for the 2014 season is now due. Rates for 2014 remain unchanged from last year and are as follows: Adult €20, Under-18 €10 and a family rate of €50. All players must pay their membership prior to taking part in any games or training. This will be strictly enforced this year so make sure you contact Philip O'Donnell, who is the club registrar again for 2014, before training commences. We are taking this matter very serious this year and you simply won't play if you haven't paid, players are also going to ensure that their fellow players have paid so no excuses..

Scrap Metal
There's an old saying that says "It's an ill wind that blows no good". Maybe the storms of last week have increased the possibility of scrap metal in the area. We would like take this opportunity to remind our friends and supporters that the club has an on-going scrap metal collection operation in place. Contact James O'Connor or any committee member if you have anything to donate. Collection can be arranged if necessary.
