ADULT HURLING MAJOR TO MINORS CLUB LEAGUE
The All weather No Place for the Fainthearted as Club League Hots Up!
The excellent all weather pitch - such an advantage t the club since its arrival, saw plenty of sweat, skill and effort on Monday last 7pm-9pm when club hurlers from intermediate to minor went at it hammer and tongs in rds 3 and 4 of the pre season club League. Veterans such as Vincent Sheehan, Jim Fanning (wearing his Tipperary jersey), Derry McMahon, Mike Mulcahy, Willie Hurley, turned back the clock with vintage displays while youngsters such as Cian Sheehan, Daniel Copse, Jack McCarthy, cousins Eoin and William Hurley gave evidence that they are arriving at the stage where they can challenge for places on the clubs flagship intermediate team. Results from Monday are as follows: Martin Hennessy 20 v Mike McMahon 9, Mark Kelly 16 v Seán Browne 24, Mike McMahon 19 v Stephen Nix 19, Seán Browne 24 v Stephen Nix 18. The League continues on Monday next with rds 5 and 6, and concludes at the end of February.

Club Expenses
2012 expenses are likely to be just as high as 2011 with 18 teams being fielded in hurling and football and further necessary repair work at the field, some drainage, refurbishment of the goalmouth area, new floor for the gym, upgrading the toilets above the all weather, required.

FUNDRAISER
Down the line, earlier rather than later in the year, date to be decided, a Fashion Show and support is appreciated.

PRESENTATION NIGHTS
On the agenda for both seniors, runners up medals for senior, U21 footballers defeated in their respective County Finals, West Championship winners medals for Junior B and Minor footballers, and Cóiste na nÓg/Co winners medals for U16 and U14 footballers, on dates to be finalised.

MEMBERSHIP
The fees are very reasonable at €25 over 18s, €15 students, U18s, €10 Cóiste na nÓg, U16 down, and they are due now. All involved in club activity, whether as players, mentors, committee members, officers, must take out membership which covers all involved and the club in the event of injury. With the club in all sports now, the status quo is 'No membership, no involvement, no pay, no play'. The public is also invited to take out membership. With support for the club the main reason why, and a vote at the AGM, name in the hat for Big Match tickets the two main advantages.

COACHING COURSES
There are useful ones coming up, Award 1 in Child (8-12), and Youth (13-18), the former in Cappamore, the latter in Newcastle West. Full details next week and further information from Newcastle West Cóiste na nOg secretary John Hur-ley.

SQUASH
It isn't what it was in the halcyon days of the 70s/80s when Derek Heverin and Pat McCarthy were the leading local players and the club's two courts were going 'round the clock'. However, our remaining court, (the other is now a gym downstairs and a vital meeting room/storeroom/toilet/kitchen-ette upstairs) remains open for business and is used regularly. Pat Condon is the person to contact, or any committee member, for more information.

THE ALL WEATHER
This is really proving its worth, with all club teams using it, the camogie club in situ also and outside clubs taking slots. A very big plus is that its availability gives breathing space and time for recovery and rehab to the field and An Pairc Amuigh. Now and then we appreciate the guts of the officers who took the brave step to go ahead and build it, and the people who fundraised and supported the fundraising for it. The club owes them. Thank you to all.
