Blackrock take Under 21 title

December 19, 2008
Blackrock 1-15 Killulta Gaels 1-12 Blackrock claimed the county Under 21 B hurling title last Sunday with a well-earned three-point victory over Killulta Gaels at Feenagh. After an even start to the game, the would-be winners raced clear when long range David Moloney's free landed to the back of the net, which saw Blackrock into a 1-9 to 0-6 lead at the half-time interval. Within 30 seconds of the restart the revival looked to be on for the Gaels as Ruairi pucked to the net, but a pair of frees from Mike Roche, who finished with 0-8, and a fine individual score from Brian Reynolds left the right back with the same deficit. Willie Griffin responded with two frees of his own to keep the trailers in it, but Blackrock were determined to keep their opponents distanced by six with Brian Moloney and Ruairi O'Shaughnessy both sending over points. The points of Stephen McKeogh, Darren Walsh and Griffin all provided consolation for Killulta late on as Blackrock held out for the title.
