Moloney: We can have no complaints
December 19, 2008
Bruff player-manager Paul Moloney says his side can have no complaints about losing out on the Munster JFC title last Sunday to Skellig Rangers of Kerry.
Moloney was introduced as a substitute in the provincial decider and watched as the Kerry champions displayed an awesome finish at the Mallow Sports Complex to ride out 0-11 to 0-7 winners.
Two major factors contributed to Bruff's deterioration one the day. The first being the loss of their key midfielder John Cooke due to a broken thumb, and the second being the sending off of their centre-back Dean Madden for a second bookable offence.
However, Maloney says that the players cannot turn to those factors as an excuse.
"At the end of the day the game is over and we can have no complaints. In the last 20 minutes they probably owned the ball, but I also want to give our lads credit.
"With the lads we were missing today, Bobby Rea was another very good corner-forward missing, I thought the lads who played out there did the club very proud and Limerick football very proud as well.
"We came down here maybe more in hope than expectation, but we said we would come out and give it a right good lash and take these lads.
"And, for the bones of 40 minutes we did just that.
"I suppose the tired legs told in the end, but fair play to Skellig they were the better team on the day.
"That was our first set back all year and you've got to take the bad days with the good. So all in all we've had a fantastic year and we're well happy with it."
