Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club

December 15, 2008
We closed out another successful year holding our Bord na nOg AGM last week and winning the city U13a football final against Monaleen. Club members attending the AGM heard comprehensive reports from our chairman, secretary and treasurer outlining what was achieved on and off the field as we continue to develop playing facilities and club structures to promote the games and develop players for our senior club. Officers elected at the AGM were; President Pa O'Brien, Chairman Padraig Flanagan, Vice-Chairman John Beatty, Secretary Gerry Griffin, Treasurer Brian Culhane, PRO Bosco Ryan, Registrar Geraldine Dee. The under 13 footballers won the city title recently with a fine win over a bigger Monaleen side. This squad continues to progress, having been city and county champions at u12 in 2007 and winning the U13 shield title this Autumn at the Austin Stacks inter-county blitz. A number of these players had already won the county u14a title a few weeks back and another batch had won city championship and county league at u12 in the Summer. Weather and field conditions were as good as could be expected at the time of year and the boys made use of their pace and good passing ability to move the ball quickly and recorded a win of 6-3 to 3-1, having lead by 4-2 to 2-1 at half-time. It was pleasing to see that scores came from seven different players. The team and scorers were; Cathal O'Regan, Niall Mulcahy, Eoin Mcdonnell, Eoin O'Doherty, Niall Goggin, Killian Ryan, Aidan Reidy, Gearoid Lyons(1-1), Conor Linehan, Dean Jordan(0-1), Jamie McAuliffe(1-0), Stephen Hackett(1-0), Jack Harrington (1-0), Eoin McCormack(1-0), Ronan Beatty, Ryan Minihan, David O'Brien (1-1), Adam Coleman, James Cusack. At the end Jamie McAuliffe accepted what is possibly the last city underage cup to be presented from city board chairman and Mungret clubman DK O'Brien. Thanks to DK and his officers for the great work they have done in running an efficient fixture schedule in the city division for so many years. Mike Mann had a busy day refereeing the game and kept the more enthusiastic players and supporters focused on the match in hand. We now look forward to 2009 and to a new fixture and competition structure at all age groups to u14 at all-county level and this is sure to bring new challenges and opportunities for our players and coaches. We will have an event in the New Year to recognise our many trophy winners this year and to present the players with their medals. Coaches will be in contact with parents in advance of training resuming in Februry and membership for 2009 will be due then as players return to the fields. Everyone involved with the club would like to express their deepest sympathy to the Ryan and Synnott family on the recent death of Maureen Ryan (Dooradoyle).
