Munster club JFC final: Skellig see off Bruff
December 15, 2008
Skellig Rangers of Kerry claimed the Munster junior club football title following a four-point victory over Limerick's Bruff at Mallow.
Skellig Rangers..0-11
Bruff.......0-7
Skellig, who will be in action again next weekend in the South Kerry semi-final against Waterville, were inspired by superb performances from midfielders Stephen and Aidan O'Sullivan, and corner forward Sean Courtney. This victory ensures them of an All-Ireland semi-final showdown with Monaghan's Drumhowan in February.
Bruff put it up their Kerry counterparts, especially in the first half when the sides were level five times before Skellig Rangers went into at the break 0-6 to 0-5 ahead. The Limerick side were left to rue a missed penalty by Andy O'Neill in the 24th minute which, had it been scored, would surely have had them in front at half-time.
Things went from bad to worse for Bruff early in the second half when firstly county player John Cooke was forced off through injury, and then centre back Dean Madden received his marching orders.
By the end of the third quarter, the Portmagee men had opened up a 0-9 to 0-6 lead and further points by Chris O'Driscoll and Courtney were the icing on the cake.
