Lenihan rallies clubs to support underage plan

December 10, 2008
Limerick chairman Liam Lenihan has called on clubs to give their backing to the county's new blueprint for the future, 'Lifting the Treaty'. Addressing Monday night's annual convention in Raheen, Lenihan said it was obvious that "we have to change the way we operate at underage level in the whole of Limerick". He added: "The easiest thing for me to do as chairman of the county board would be to maintain the status quo and let things drift along. But I could not justify that stance and you would not thank me for it." 'Lifting the Treaty' is a working document that aims to change all underage structures in the county and abolish the four divisional juvenile boards, which have been in operation since 1972. Pointing out that six out of 10 people in Limerick are living in urban areas, Lenihan went on to say: "We have many clubs in Limerick who do their business well, yet unfortunately we have other clubs who fall short and they know it. Now this is an opportunity for all of us to go forward with a new enthusiasm. United we can achieve things."
