Stokes basks in Munster club glory

December 09, 2008
Drom-Broadford midfielder Jason Stokes has acknowledged that Sunday's Munster club football success was a dream come true for everyone associated with the West Limerick club. "It's massive, it's beyond belief really," said the big midfielder, whose club and inter-county career has been blighted by injury in recent years. "It's brilliant to finally get a Munster medal. It was a dogfight against Kilmurry-Ibrickane and might not have been the prettiest game to watch from a neutral perspective. But we just had to stay in the game and once we got our noses in front, we had to stay there. "It's just fantastic and hopefully this will do great things for Limerick football. There's a good county side there and who knows we might go on to do the double now this year." Captain Tom McLoughlin believes the appointment as Cork man Ned English as coach at the start of the year was the catalyst for Drom-Broadford's historic success. "Ned is different, he's definitely different," he laughed. "When we first met him, we didn't know what to make of him. We were there 'is this fella off his game?' and he was probably looking at us too, wondering what we were up to. "The first few games we played, we were wondering was it going to work out. But in fairness to him, he stuck with us and we stuck with him. More than anything else, he brought a fresh approach and a fresh voice. Fair play to Ned, we stuck to his game plan and it paid off."
