September 03, 2008
On Tuesday night last our junior hurlers drew 0-20 to 2-14 with Na Piarsaigh in our their last group match in the club field. The result now means that both sides will meet again in the semi final, which will be played this weekend. Our management can be very happy with the performance of their young side that never threw in the towel and battled on gamely to grind out a vital point in the group standings. The first ten minutes was very even when we scored four points all from frees, a brace each from the sticks of the Mullins brothers Brendan and Patrick. In the same period Na Piarsaigh scored 1-04 to lead by three points at the half way stage. Barry O Doherty and Patrick Mullins scored points from play to leave the minimum between the sides Na Piarsaigh added a point before Patrick Mullins scored a brace of points to leave the sides level. Disaster struck for us when Na Piarsaigh scored a green flag from all of seventy yards again we responded with points from Niall Phelan and another brace from Patrick Mullins to leave the Caherdavin side ahead by 2-09 to 0-12 at the break. We opened the second half in fine style with points from substitute Tommy Cross who made a welcome return to action after a long lay off with injury and Niall Phelan play swung from end to end, for the next twenty minutes in this period the Na Piarsaigh keeper brought off some great saves we had points from Niall Phelan Patrick Mullins and team captain Kevin Maher to leave the score Na Piarsaigh 2-14 to our 17points with five minutes remaining.
