Munster U20FC: Coleman strikes late to sink Tipp

February 19, 2020

Limerick were one-point winners over Tipperary in Rathkeale

Limerick 0-7
Tipperary 0-6

Limerick edged Tipperary in Rathkeale this evening to book their place into the semi-finals of the Munster U20 football championship.

In the end, it was Barry Coleman’s late point that saw the Shannonsiders pull through in the tough weather conditions after Tipp looked to have secured a draw with two minutes to go.

It was the visitors that led by 0-3 to 0-2 at the halfway stage thanks a long range effort from Mark O'Meara but Limerick hit the front with four points on the bounce after the break to seemingly take control of this low-scoring quarter-final derby.

The Premier men dug deep in the closing quarter to fire over three points without reply and a replay looked destined until Coleman’s intervention in injury-time for Jerry O'Sullivan's side.

The Treaty men now face Kerry in the semi-finals this day week while Clare and Waterford battle it out in Miltown-Malbay tomorrow (throw-in 7pm) for the remaining last four berth against holders Cork.
