Aaron Gillane's free registered the 'Well on the scoreboard after twenty minutes, but Ballygunner extended their lead to 0-6 to 0-1 by the 25th minute. While Ballygunner scored their seventh point, Ciaran Carey's men blasted back with a quickfire trio from Aaron Gillane (0-2) and John Flynn. The half-time score was 0-7 to 0-6 to Ballygunner.

The start of the second half was again dominated by Ballygunner. Four points in twelve minutes opened up an 0-11 to 0-6 advantage. While Aaron Gillane pulled back a point, the Waterford side accumulated another four points to lead by 0-15 to 0-7 after 52 minutes. Patrickswell needed a colossal comeback. Jack Kelleher chipped in with two quick points, but Ballygunner closed out the match with a brace of points. The final score was 0-17 to 0-9.  Hard luck to the players and management.
