September 02, 2019

SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell preserved their unbeaten record in the Senior Hurling Championship after grinding out a draw with Adare. Josh Considine scored the opening point of the match within a minute, but Adare equaliser a few minutes later. The Wall's second point was closely followed by a good spell from our neighbours, where they notched four consecutive points in four minutes. Kevin O'Brien and Calvin Carroll halted the surge by firing over two points in rapid succession. At the ten minute mark, Patrickswell trailed by 0-5 to 0-4. The game appeared to swing decisively in Adare's favour as they plundered 1-5 without reply in a devastating spell. Thankfully Jack Kelleher and Paul O'Brien responded with points, but the 'Well found themselves 1-10 to 0-6 behind on 20 minutes. The remainder of the first half was evenly matched as Jack Kelleher (0-2) and Diarmaid Byrnes were cancelled out. The half-time score was 1-13 to 0-9.

The first ten minutes of the second half was characterised by four Jack Kelleher points being matched by Adare. Ciaran Carey's men remained seven points adrift. Paul O'Brien and Jason Gillane notched points to close the deficit to five points at 1-17 to 0-15. Two Adare points sandwiched another Kelleher point and the margin was back to six points. The contest was blown wide open as Josh Considine's goal was followed up with points from Seanie O'Brien, Diarmaid Byrnes and Jack Kelleher. There was eight minutes on the scoreboard clock and Patrickswell trailed by 1-20 to 19. Adare crept two points ahead, but Calvin Carroll and Diarmaid Byrnes finally brought the match level at 1-21 apiece on 57 minutes. Jack Kelleher was then forced to cancel out two Adare points as the stadium clock ran out at 1-23 each. There was enough injury time for Andrew Carroll's point to put the 'Well on the brink of an unexpected victory. However, Adare worked the ball forward and equalised at the death.
