County Football League Division 1

Fr. Caseys 0-08 Newcastle West 2-17

Fr. Caseys Senior footballers travelled to Newcastle West last Thursday to take on local rival Newcastle West in round 6 of the county league. This years campaign has been a mixed bag with 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw in the league to date. With a crucial championship encounter with Ballylanders over a fortnight away this encounter was a timely test to dust off the summer cobwebs and get the pulses racing once more. The first period was dominated by the home side and losing county star Adrain Enright midway through the half did not help fortunes. Despite registering 6 points on the baord, Newcastle West were far more clinical at the other end and notched up 1-11 in the first 30 minutes to hold a comprehensive 8 point lead into the break. The half time score was Fr. Caseys 0-06, Newcastle West 1-11. Newcastle West continued to exert their dominance from the start of the second half and when they landed their second goal of the night the contest was all but over. Fr. Caseys battled throughout but for the second consecutive outing our forwards failed to breach the 8 point barrier while at the other end our defence was far too generous. With two weeks until they meet Ballylanders a big improvement is needed. Hopefully this was just a minor blip and the real display is being kept in reserve. The full time score was Fr. Caseys 0-08, Newcastle West 2-17
